So it seems with a replacement door handle (outside of car) there is listed both a all chrome handle and button, and a all chrome but black plastic button

Any idea which is "right" for a 69 charger RT?

It seems like from the book, either is listed as "69 B body"

I tried looking at pics of other peoples 1969 chargers, I think I saw both kinds

I think it's build date specific....
What was on your car?
Gotta love a '69

Chrome, but the key I got doesn't seem to turn in the doors, so who knows if it's right

But they do look old

There was a transition during the model year. My early Nov StL built Coronet came with black plastic. So if your car is "early" black plastic may be appropriate. If it's "late" chrome is probably more likely.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

Was the R/T different than a standard Charger in this regard?

My Charger (not an R/T) is an early 1969 model (1968 build date) from St. Louis as well and it has black plastic buttons.

Interesting topic. However, IMHO chrome buttons look and feel better.  :2thumbs:

Chrome on mine. I think mine's a July built or something, not sure. I have the tall bumper guards as well if that help. If you have shorties then go with black buttons.   :2thumbs:
