Where might one go for insight into these relics of the late 1950s?  I'm discovering that there is much that I'm unfamiliar  with about them.

What are you trying to figure out? I still run one.

Joe:  My sons car project has one and it has decided to stop shifting up out of 1st gear. Reverse works as well but...that's it for now.  Hoping it's an adjustment issue and not something more fatal.

Could the kick down linkage be jammed or lost a spring?  :scratchchin:

Functionality they are the same internally for the most part. The shifter is merely cable driven vs a rod/linkage. It is a different valve body but the system works the same. You can start by making sure the cable is moving properly but if you have 1st, reverse and neutral, it probably is. Govenor pressure would be my next check along with kickdown linkage if equipped.

What year, engine?

Some earlier models have TP linkage that is a direct connection between carb and trans lever; these can't stick if the carb returns to idle OK. Later versions have a slot and return spring; as stated, if the spring breaks the linkage can remain in a high upshift position. Check this first.

If all is well there, the governor is the likely problem; only a gauge hooked to the governor pressure test port will tell.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

following the Seneca thread I'd say a 60 Seneca with 225 ;)

Mr. Kunkel,  thank you.  Nacho is correct, 1960 slant 6. Pleased to hear I might not have to tackle a tranny rebuild at this point too.

Mr. Kunkel:  I was hoping to do a flush and filter change on this 904. Can't seem to find a filter and a pan gasket for this particular unit. Any suggestions as to where to look?

Oops, answered my own question.  https://www.allpar.com/mopar/transmissions/torqueflite-filters.html

Lots of challenges it would seem.

Good news, it appears the converson to the pressed filter has already been done.  Now...need to find  the time to do the rest of it , and, of course find the rest of the necessary parts. This is a job I'd happily delegate if I could find a competent shop nearby.
