1970 Charger standard steering wheel question

Hi Guys
I'm converting my 70 Charger back to a standard steering wheel. The car had a 1980 aftermarket wheel on it.

I bought a pg classic 1970 wheel. I bought a used 70 horn pad with ring. I bought a used 70 horn switch.

Something is definitely wrong. The pad doesn't fit well.

I will post pics. Any idea what is going on ?

My eyes perked up when I saw "PG CLASSIC WHEEL" Repo stuff is CRAP. I haven't heard anything in Particular about that wheel but I'm suspicious. I'd call them and ask if they're had issues. I'd then pull the  horn cover and measure the wheel and see if another member can help with original measurements.

Yup will definitely pull and see what's going on. It's been awhile since I restored a 70 but for the life of me I can't remember having an issue before.

I have one of their '70 wheels in a box and installed a '69 on my Bee to replace my cracked wheel. Zero difference between OE and theirs as to how the horn pad sits.

You've got to have some good distance, otherwise the pad can't rock to one side to activate the horn. Here's my '69 done with the new PG wheel... no different than it was with the OE wheel.

I would trust the original part more than any reproduction myself but before blaming that, any issues with the assembly?

I have seen steering wheels installed slightly off & torqued down crooked before........

There were also two different horn switches in use, one for center pad push to activate & a lighter duty version for full & partial horn ring cars since they required less leverage to activate.

Neither horn switch would affect fit though.

Thx Barry! What is the purpose of the raised piece that sticks out past the disk that you screw the horn pad on to. Does that help center the horn pad?

That would be awesome and much appreciated. I just seem to remember my 70 RR had a better fitment  in that area. It's been awhile since I owned a B body.

Keep in  mind the 70 wheel is a one year only part, are you sure you don't have a 67-69 wheel?

it wouldn't match with steering column diameter and the pics he shows on initial post shows they are matched

He has the correct grained finish wheel, vs the smooth 69 down wheel.

Awesome, thx! I'm going to say that's the gap I'm seeing and it's normal. Thanks for taking the time to confirm for me!

I think it struck me as wider than normal because my seats are white and I can see the white when I look through the gap.
