it should no problem. as long as the Back space is correct, & it more than likely is,,,, 8" is a little narrow but I have done it & had to run about 26 psi so it would not wear out the center

That tire is almost 12" wide.

An OEM combo would use a 10" wide rim for the tire.  Not even 9".

The 275 60 15s I had on 15x8s were bulgy, I'm pretty sure you need 15x10s if for nothing more than the backspacing increase.

This. Ive seen 305s on 7 inch rims.... yup, they will go on and seat. But why? My educated opinion- 8" wheel, stick with the 275 max.

Does anyone have a pic of what it actually looks like ?  Thanks

Here's a thread on a Camaro forum about the same sizing:

http://nastyz28.com/threads/295-50-tire-on-a-15x8-rim.193807/

And here's a pic from that thread where somebody did it.  It's way too wide for that rim:

will

I had 295's on my 8" wheels. I didn't like how loose the rear was. Once I put 10" wheels on, the ride was improved exponentially. Go with the 10's, you won't regert it... :eek2:

alfaitalia

The list below he copied from my tyre place.

But forgetting whether you should or shouldn't.....the tyre on that Camero just looks wrong imo...too "bulgy"....if there is such a word!

I have 255 on 7" and they fit, handle and look nice. It was in fact the minimun rim width posible for them per tire specs ( firehawk Indy500 ) at tirerack website when I bough those. And still if you search for any brand on 255/60, still states the 7"-9" width range is good for them.

If you look at 295/50 tires list there, they also say 8" is on the minimum of the width range, but I have seen those on cars personally and... MMMM I'm not convinced of that.

I don't know about this chart.  A stock F70-14 came on a 5.5" rim, and a G70-15 came on a 6" rim.  The charts I find show those are 215 and 225 width tires.

Mike DC

There's a lot of variation on those tire/rim with "rules" depending on the vehicle and source.

For a given tire width, the OEMs will use a narrower rim for off-road applications (like with taller tire sidewalls).  Better rim protection.

If the application is a short-sidewall setup on a sporty car, the rim will be wider to help hold the tread in place laterally.

295/50/15 on 8.5" Vectors

I should also mention that the tyres are Hercules 4000. US made I think
After more than 15,500 miles they are showing very little wear and I have been more than happy with the way they handle on the road.
Having said that, I also have Hercules on my Hilux and they're the worst tyres in the wet I have ever had so dunno what's up there  :shruggy:
Gotta love a '69
