Hello all just wondering if its possible to convert a 69 vacuum head light door opener using a 70 electric door opener set up  is the parts off the 1970 compatible such as the center mounting bracket can you use some off one and some off the over has anyone done this and got it working as i'd rather use mopar than after market stuff if i can or am i beating a dead horse :horse:

Nacho-RT74

interesting nobody chimed into this before

I think if it was posible on the easy, somebody already would have made it in the past, and even using 71/72 parts, with all the info around. Just like the 70s disc Brakes conversion on pre 72 Mopars. BUT I guess is not that easy, and better get aftermarket stuff :shruggy:

just thinking out loud.

I wouldn't say is not posible, but maybe lot of mods or fab involved

70 sublime

Do not think the 68 69 plastic door has the stand off that sticks out for the square rod to go into that the electric motor turns to open the doors like on a 70
Might be hard to adapt that part and make it strong enough
The electric doors open very quickly

Is there something wrong with your vacuum setup?

Nope...   '70 setup uses 1 motor with a long rod that connects both doors.   I don't know if anybody has ever tried adapting that over to 68-9.   Quite a bit different.

Charger Specialties conversion has 2 separate motors / rams that replace the vacuum pods.

Charger specialties was making repro 68-9 vacuum pods but they don't seem to be available anymore ?   I bought 2 sets but actually had 1 new one go bad after a year :(

Repro 68-9 vacuum cans used to be available (Vans) ...  I adapted some $40 black jegs thing on Betty last year when I could not longer get a new juice can. :(

ive not taken apart or  looked at the 70 charger set up , close enough to see whats what , as far as i can see ! in an ideal situation , to pull off this conversion you would need a complete 70 grill with all the  motor / brackets  drive rod thing that connects doors to motor etc  with a 69 grill laid out on a bench , then take the  metal 70s head light door backings & attach to modified 69 doors some how , leaving room for adjustment etc , you might end up sacrificing a pair of 69 doors & trimming a 69 grill ,  seems a load of work ... :scratchchin:  have a look below at the 70 head light doors the metal backing needs to be attached to the 69s
after reading Brians post about , the vacuum stuff not available ! had a re think on fitting  the 70 set up ! would look kind of original looking OEM type  , if  you wanted to retain a kind of factory appearance !  with out going to  the charger specialities set up ...but  trying to adapt the 70 set up looks like too time consuming IMO 25 years ago i would of attempted it now  lifes too short  :P
