Interesting bit of history with my car when I got it was finding these lights and an HF radio installed. The original owner ( Uncle of the guy I bought it from) was a cop in Reno Nevada and car did serve most of it's life as a "police car"  Originally I was going to take them out but more I thought about it how many Charger Cop cars could there be? Anyway wife doesn't like them but I do...what do you guys thinK

mmm just an opinion:

Is it coded or supported by some literature or documentation? leave them

Isn't it documented ? remove them and storage those if you want and if selling in the future tell the story to the new owner

Thanks Nacho, all comments welcome..
Circumstantial evidence, photos of police stickers and such. Previous owner is supposed to be digging up more stuff but has to get it from guys son.

I had a '73 Duster that had PRIOR POLICE on the vehicle title. The fender tag had some code that pertained to police or fleet use, I can't recall what.
My thoughts were that as stripped down as the Duster was and the fact that it was a 2 door model. I figured that it was an administrative car or undercover. It had a 318 with manual steering and manual disc brakes with almost no other options. Certainly no lights like that in the speaker deck!

Could you get hassled for posing as a police car?

AKcharger

Kern dog - interesting about title and all, yeah, probably admin this one was guys personal car that he legally outfitted with lights and radio
GREEN - i check laws and with state troopers, not illegal to have the lights but if I turned them on and tried to pull people over might be trouble

But for them to see the lights, wouldn't you have to chase them in reverse?    :scratchchin:

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

:Twocents:

It's part of that car's character and history.  Leave them on.

It would, im thinking he must have had like a "starsky and Hutch" light for the dash

But I took them off....AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY WIFE NOT LIKING THIEM!! I mean I wear the pants in this family!!  (Sound believable?)

70 sublime

Neat story but for the grief they may cause I would leave them off

If you can find some pictures of car in use would be a cool touch for car show stuff when you open the trunk  :2thumbs:
next project 70 Charger FJ5 green

I remember seeing a photo of a green 70 Charger R/T with the single gumball light on the roof, and police star stickers on the door. There was an officer in uniform posing with the car.

interesting story & history ! shame you cant contact Reno police deparment , might have old records of the vin or something ,  even old news papers  new 70 charger being used  by officer  X etc  .... etc   while its probably how the guys uncle is remembering it , i would need 100 % proof with out any shadow of a doubt ,  then i would not leave the lights there permanent , would fabricate some kind of quick disconnect set up. maybe even keep all the ex polige stuff on a display board only  :scratchchin:
should you want to display it at a show with a sign board telling history !
other wise  99.9 % of the car show / public would be thinking it might be a custom / & or done for fun ! i would get bored of having to explain to inquisitive public , & then go through oh no they did not oh yes they did  etc .

interesting charger & history forsure :2thumbs:  :popcrn:

I'll keep them in a box and see if I can gather more data. I do have all the original owners information so I think I will contact the police in Reno. I used to watch a reality show about the Reno Sherrifs department, but I don't think they can help

They are actually "illegal" in Florida. You could be ticketed!  :o  Red/Blue reserved for police only.
