Temp sensor location

I'm installing a second coolant temp sensor, ( for aftermarket gauge), in my 69 383 charger. The only location I see is the big plug on top of the water pump housing. Problem is that plug is so tight that I may end up cracking the housing if I apply to much force. Is there any other location I can use?

That's the easiest location.  The factory cast iron pump housings are tough, unlikely to crack with the correct socket for the plug.  There's a 1/4" mpt plugs on the side of the block, but too small or shallow for an aftermarket sender.

Well, I've got a 1/2 inch breaker bar on this plug and it won't budge. I can do a little more force but its got me concerned. Soaking in PB blaster now but I'm not to optimistic.

Those plugs are notoriously tight, heat the plug cherry red and let cool before attempting to remove. If still no go, they make a spacer that goes under the thermostat housing that's threaded for a pipe fitting.

more than tight is the internal rust which get them stuck

Thanks. I think I may go the spacer route.
