Gas tank padding

So I have removed the fuel tank from my 70 RT to clean it out and replace the sock on the end of the sender/pickup.
I found that there was no padding on top of the tank to isolate it from the trunk floor.
I remember there being one on my old 69 Charger but I can't recall what it was made of.
I have limited time before I need to reinstall the tank so I can't order a replacement from any of the vendors your side of the pond.
Any suggestions on what might be a suitable material to make one out of?
I have a hood insulation pad from the old 69 that's big enough. I wonder if that would be ok to cut up and use.
Any thoughts?
Gotta love a '69

I was stuck one time to put something between the gas tank and trunk floor and ended up using a couple pieces of tar paper ( the stuff you put on the roof of your house before shingles go on )

Not sure on the hood pad idea if it would hold water if it got wet
