hi i was wondering if you think this price is to high or just right.  i am hoping to build up a mean street/strip 440 and found a short block for sale.  the guy i am buying from does great buisness.  he will take apart the block clean it, magnaflux it, an hone it.  do you think that $1200 is an ok price for a shot block(block, pistons, connecting rods) only.  by the way the block is form 1975 and is gauranteed to be in perfect shape.  Thanks alot

Does it have a cast crank since it is a '75 engine? I see you have a '68 R/T 4 speed mentioned in your avatar. Putting a 4 gear behind a cast crank engine can be challenging with the external balanced flywheel used.

What exactly are you getting for $1,200? Is it a complete shortblock that has been freshened up with original pistons and rods re-used?

68chargerboy

why do you say dont do it?  i have to rebuild the 383 currenlt in the car so why not upgrade to a 440?

you are leaving out many variables.  What EXACTLY is the machine shop doing or has done and plans on doing.  get an itemized list.

For $1,200 are new pistons included? Does it need boring or just honing? Prices add up for balancing, line boring, decking, etc. so without more info it is hard to tell if you are getting a good deal or not.

no new parts come with the purchase all they ar doing is giving me all of the original parts, honing it, and magnaflux it, and clean it nothing else.

for $1200 they should deck it, bore it, hone it, align hone the mains, balance your rotating assembly, and put in freeze plugs and cam bearings in my opinion.

Me three.   I have one from 1978, I think, and it only has 26,000 miles on it. The entire engine is only $400. Keep looking.

maybe if you would answer your emails when you post that you are looking for something you would find a 440 motor.

look on ebay for a 440. they all seem to come from around the chicago area. Rene
