Lowering a 71 (in back)...?

Just got my leafs rebuilt, suspension all done (almost - except for this), but I want to drop the back end down a bit. It's sitting pretty high now, plus, I have a slightly larger wheel/tire combo to go on there (once paint is done) which is gonna crank it up another 2-2 1/2".

First plan is to flip the front leaf bracket to get an inch or so -- or as I saw in another thread, there are aftermarket ones available with different holes for different ride heights.... Either way, anything else I can do...am I asking a stupid question?

I could remove some of the leaf help that's in there... but... am I just wanting my cake and to eat it too?

I gonna try Allstar performance 1inch lowering block in my 69 rear

Plus I won't remove any spring leaf. It will seat a lot down when somebody seats on rear bench... or get some full the trunk.

Greenrtse, I kind of like the way your car sits without it being lowered.

Chryco Psycho

you can use a lowering block between the axle & spring , make sure the blocks are solid & have center holes to keep the diff located the other possibility is to haver the spring re-arced flatter which improves handling as a bonus

I just put 1" lowering blocks in my 69 ,now I need longer U-bolt

plum500

Cool. *Think* that's what I'm going to end up doing -- probably in combo with swapping/flipping the front spring bracket.

Any thoughts on the performance/handling issues with lowering blocks? I've seen many a warning saying that it is far better to simply get the springs set/built to where you want the ride height.... axle issues....

Is there a point where it's OK... like 1" or therebouts... does the benefits of lowering it outweigh any adverse issues with using the blocks...?

Chryco Psycho

4X4s  lift up to 7" with blocks & still corner ok , just make sure you use new U bolts

John Paseman over at US Car Tool makes a front spring hanger with extra holes in it to raise or lower the front of your leaf spring 1 inch either way.  If that matters to anyone.
