I don't see this thing on my 68 charger wiring diagram, where does it go? I'm guessing it should light a while after the door is closed?

Just 6T9 CHGR

I could be wrong but that ign light started in 69.....thats a 69 switch you have pictured.  It is wired to a time delay relay to keep the light on a few seconds after the door is closed.

It may have been a late 68 thing, 'cause my Charger has it.

I think its one of the best things they did. putting a light there.

Yes it should light just for a short time onece the door is shut.

this is the flasher ( although without the decal though ):

Car it should have an extra harnes with the plug to the flasher to use it, what does hook on constant positive ( pink wire with male bullet terminal ), door jam ground ( yellow wire with male bullet terminal ) and source to the light ( yellow wire with male spade terminal )

mopar0166

look at a coronet wiring diagram, i thinks its hooked in to a time delay with the map and dome light

i havent really got mine to work but ive identified the right plug.  mine is just not getting a good ground

Nacho-RT74

is hooked with map and dome because use same door ground to be switched on, but not because map and dome work with the time delay flasher.

however using a relay and changing some wires here and there you could use the flasher to dome and map lights ;). never have done yet, but is posible... I think somebody already did

Hey Nacho, what are those "flasher"/relay called? I need one of those, since the light is positive activated, and the dome lights are ground activated.

Nacho-RT74

you mean to make work all the interior lights with the time delay flasher and not just the ign key courtesy one ?

the flasher itself is TIME DELAY FLASHER as stated.

To use the flasher to ALL interior lights ( no matter if being positive or negative drove ) there are dozen of ways. I think anykind of relay is posible to make it work with proper wiring setup and modifications as far you know how the relay works. Comonly a Bosch relay is the easier and cheaper way. I can make the design for you if you need/want

BTW although courtesy light/bulb is positive driven, flasher itself is still ground switched

Thanks Nacho, I only need one for the ignition light, figured the dome and console lights can go out immediately when the door shuts like it did originally.

Found them on Rockauto, but as usual, the shipping prices are ridiculous for foreign people as usual, but I'm sure you know all about that!

Nacho-RT74

buddy, those are still equipment on newer cars. I have known 90s Cherokees maybe some others too, so Mopar dealers still have them! Don't you have Mopar dealers around in Norway ?

the flasher works on this way...

3 wires... One constant positive input, One positive output to bulb, One door ground input.

when door ground is switched on, the heating element inside flasher gets intantly hot, by a short on a coil, and close the two positives points ( In and out ) to close positive circuit up to bulb... then when door is closed not anymore a short producing heat, and then opens the circuit when gets cold ( in between 8-15 seconds ).

Of course negative source to the bulb is the chassis itself.

That does happens also when turn on the dome light by dimmer wheel/switch too, because dimmer wheel also turns on dome light by a tab inside driving ground

Thanks for the info, We only got a chrysler dealer that doesnt have any pre 90 parts, and they usually have insane prices.

I just ordered a couple of them from Rockauto along with some other parts.

Nacho-RT74

welll I'm talking about POST 90 cars still have them

but well, getting some more stuff more, will justify the shipping

Corellian Corvette

Where in the harness / wiring diagram is this time delay part? Can it be added to a 68 car? I added this light when I did the interior, but I don't recall seeing such a unit, nor any place in the wiring diagram for it... :popcrn:

Hemidog

It wasn't in my wiring diagram for a 68 either, but as Nacho said, it only needs 3 wires... One constant positive input, One positive output to bulb, One door ground input.

Rolling_Thunder

my 68 Charger had that but it was not hooked to a timer or time delay relay...    it was hooked to the interior lighting itself...   It was not done by any of the previous owners...    has an orange wire and plugged into the three prong female connector behind the dash...       factory freak ?   :shruggy:

well the bulb wire should run to a three wire plug what plugs on time delay flasher.

That kind of equipment is not on the generic diagram, is used to be on a ACCESORIES diagram, same as cruise control, power seats, AC etc...

just edited a 71 diagram, making it a generic diagram to any mopar.

I Think have a couple of harness around that I could get rid off... but as you know, is an international shipping  :icon_smile_blackeye:

My father bought a 68 Charger and it was one of the last produced as I rolled his 68 Cornet. I always liked the ignition light coming on and turning off by itself. I restored the car but the ignition light is not working. Matter of fact just lately the dome trunk light and map light are not. Need to find out what's wrong. Do you think by getting a new relay it would solve all the problems.

Nacho-RT74

Time delay flasher just works with the ign key courtesy light. So, no, if you are having problems also with dome and trunk lights and assuming all three are related, problem is elsewhere. The only network linking all three is the positive source, which is common for all. It's a fused source coming from batt side of the fusebox. Mostly sure also feeds the glove box light. Do you have glove box light?

Not saying you could be having several issues at the same time just by coincidence. But fix one by one. Get the trunk and dome lights working first to check if that "fixes" the courtesy light too being a common source. Then we must think on next step.

Thought I should mention, this lamp is part of the optional "light group". In 1968 is was group 355. In 1969 it was A01.  The diagram for this will be in the accessories diagrams. Your main harness will the provisions to add the additional parts. While it appears many were added as promotions, it was still an option. Some cars didn't leave with it. My 1968 didn't have it.
