The first I've heard of it but that guy is obviously having some problems.  As far as it being a strip only wheel, his one photo clearly shows the "street legal" stamped into the back of it.
It couldn't hurt to inspect the ones on your car.

terrible one

I just posted that link in this thread: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,57369.msg639679.html#msg639679

I would really suggest that you look at your wheels for the fractures. I got that link from my buddy in Pittsburgh who was running the Welds on a street/strip '69 Camaro and found fracturing on 2 of the spokes of one of his wheels.  :scratchchin:

If they broke with as little hard use as the red truck story implies, then honestly I'm amazed we haven't heard about this a long time ago.  TONS of guys are abusing the shit out of those things nationwide every day.

Maybe the problem is related to some specific batch of those things or something.  (Okay now I'm starting to sound like I'm doing PR damage-control for the company.)

Have there been any problems with any other Welds? My dad is looking at these ones for his Mustang...

Never had any problems with my PS wheels but this did make me have a closer look  ;D

Steve P.

I sold a set of these last summer. I swear they said NOT FOR STREET USE or DRAG RACING ONLY on them... I was shocked to see the STREET USE stamp on those wheels that broke..

Also, this is NOT the first time I have seen that with the WELD PS wheels. BUT,,,,, They were being used on a nasty Grand National every day and it was also BOTH front wheels. The right side gave just like on the truck and the left side was cracked. They were also 3.5" cookie cutters...

i know a guy running those prostars here on his 70 challenger, 600 hp , mini tubbed, 295's on the rear. Had them for years, never heard of any problem along with thousands of other people having no problem.

To me it looks like the guys trying to sell american racing wheels for the company. Just read it. 1 faulty batch n say the entire company is bad = poor.

Steve P.

I believe American bought weld racing wheels..... American still makes the wheels today.... Greg Weld sold it a few years back and started GREG WELD MOTORSPORTS. Then last August he died and Greg Weld Motorsports is now defunct.

I can only guess that somewhere along the line they made some kind of change to the wheel and labeled it good for street use. The set I had were not.

I'm sure that any of the ones made in China are vigorously tested.  :sarcasmalert:
