I picked up a spare LCA at a swap meet. So I decided to press the pilot shaft and bushing out to see if  my improvised tools would work, they did. The lower ball joint was the press in style. After removal I noticed threads in the LCA. Rusty and in poor shape.

I cleaned the treads and tried a threaded Moog k719 in the hole . Loose fit, no way you could torque to spec. The Press in joint I removed would be a press in fit back in.

Can you use the press in style if the treads are damaged ?

Car has screw in now with the 4 flats. Getting ready to remove next week. Have the socket tool and have been soaking with rustbuster for a couple weeks now.

there are oversized press in MOOG ball joints, problem solver. I think .002 or .003 oversized.

74s are press in

:scratchchin:  Measured the old press in joint and it was .003 bigger than the Moog k719 treaded joint I bought to install . I will find out next week when I take the car apart. Worst case , I have a Mig welder.

my LCA pressure assembly was enough worned out to NOT EVEN BE ENOUGH the oversized balljoints. What mechanical made ( i didn't want visible welding points ) is make a welding "ring" around the new balljoint, to make it MORE OVER SIZED and press it back.

another idea is make one or two cuts on LCA ball joints location, close the gap and weld it back to get undersized the LCA hole.

Finished front end rebuild . Was fortunate. All four ball joints unscrewed and the new ones when in fine.  :2thumbs:

The washer weld in trick for the LCA bushing sleave worked great! Car is back on the road with new Moog parts .

Will get aligned next week.

Thanks for the help.
