Found out the mystery to why the gauges didn't work:

Earlier in the year, I bought my daughter a 1969 Charger, which was in good shape, overall. However, we have found a few things which needed TLC.

We fixed the horn, the flasher (thanks to this site helping!), and a few other little items. Nothing out of the ordinary for a 43 + year old car.

That said, when we put on the right signal, the little green signal indicator on the dash illuminated. When we put on the left signal, the BIG red brake indicator lit. Hmm... :scratchchin: We also had an aftermarket coolant temp and oil gauge which didn't work...

Pulling the dash apart this afternoon, we found why  the indicator flashed the wrong spot - it was reversed in the bulbs.... Wrong bulb in wrong socket  :slap: We also found out why the gauges didn't move... No wiring to the back side  :slap:

This piece was missing:

And the rest of the back side of the dash looked like a gnarly dog got hungry on it... :scratchchin:

So, this cements the deal... I will need to buy a new (refurbished) cluster... I don't think mine has much core value other than the speedo and clock...

Here are some of the options I have found - am I overlooking others?

Less money, but I have 4 switches on the left - I have a 69 - I think the one in this auction is for a 1970?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences - the good, the bad, the ugly

You have the instrument cluster bezel, clear lens cover and white frame with a good clock and speedo? just buy new "OEM brand" gauges, a solid state gauge regulator and a new or used board. How is the harness? (Pics of what you have will help figure this out.)
Yes that 3rd listing was for a 70, they have NO switch next to "Brake" light as flashers switch was moved to steering column.

The harness has been "picked through" to the point there is quite a bit of electrical tape over some of the wires.  :shruggy:

I saw the small gauges are available seperately, but didn't see what goes to them, while I was "in there"  :slap:  Where is the best place to source a wiring diagram for a 1969?  :coolgleamA:

I still don't understand how somebody can assembly a dash on the way you described it and still install it
