I just noticed a 1970 Charger S/E with a 318 in it for sale near my house.  The car has been in Arizona its whole life, 2 owner car.  The interior is fairly good, the body has no rust, needs paint and vinyl top.  The car has body damage in both rear quarters and the trunk(pretty good size dents), other than that the rest of the body is very straight.  The  guy is asking $3500.00

My question is would it be possible for me to take the 451 stroker and transmission that was just finished last week out of my "73 Charger and put it in the 1970 Charger?  Then maybe take the 318 and put it in the 1973 car and sell it.  Would the value of the 1970 car be worth the hassle after it was all fixed up?   Sorry I dont have photos, but any opinions are valued.

More than likely an 8 1/4.



The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

You can do whatever you want with a 318 car. ;) That's a big generalization but the fact is a numbers matching 318 is probably worth a lot less than having a non-numbers matching 440 in a 318 car. I don't know if the 451 iwould make the car worth any more than with a 318 but it won't be less. Don't tell the third gen guys I said this but I'd much rather have a '70 Charger than a '73. :icon_smile_cool:

Your right, that would take the fun out of it.  My mechanic has three 440 sitting in his barn, what do think of one of them in this car?

I spoke with the owner today he is willing to go down in price a bit, car will need both rear quarters, bumper and rear valence.  I'm taking some photos today, if I dont buy it I'll be happy to give the number out to whoever wants it.

Man, that back end is really hammered. But I still think it's probably worth it. You're looking at having to get a repop quarter panel, valance, valance corner and maybe a rear taillight panel. You could have some damage in the trunk too, like maybe the trunk extension and I would bet you will have to put it on a frame rack and stretch it back out. Does the decklid close? I doubt it. Anyway, there's a lot of work to do on that LR corner but chances are that lower quarter and trunk extension are rusted anyway. Is the other side damaged too? Did you try talking him down yet, maybe to $2,500? Ask him if he has the bumper jack too. Those things are a $300 bill now.

I asked what his bottom line is, all he would say is he has some wiggle room.  I also found out it has a salvaged title from the rear damage.

I'd see if he would 'wiggle' down to $2,500. Take the cash and let those 25 Franklins do the talking for you.
