GYC in hot water over Rex's lime green 70 Charger.

Seems Mark isn't the "Good Guy" he seems when dealing with the rear ended 70.
Anybody else heard? Can't post pics from phone, but looks pretty bad for $30k worth of body work....

Rex (the owner) has a Facebook page - - "Don't trust your Mopar to the Graveyard".

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1449534368651553/

Personally I think you can find fault on both sides.....but the repair appears to be hacked by GYC (based on the photos he posted).

I read the Facebook drama.  The backstory is Rex bought the car last year (already restored) to use as his daily driver. He only had it for a month or two before the accident.  He paid over $50K total for the car, including a newer model Challenger as a trade-in.  It was insured for $58K with Hagerty because it was sold at Barrett Jackson, Scottsdale in 2009 for $58K per his Facebook page.

After the accident, Hagerty estimated the damage at $45K and declared the vehicle a total loss.  The guaranteed agreed value should have been paid out by Hagerty and Rex would have been broken even...but for some reason he didn't want that??  He claims the $58K payout didn't work for him because he wanted the vehicle back and Hagerty would sell it back to him for $14K.  Quick math says that would leave $44K for a repair. After reading a bit more I found out he owed the bank $47K.

Personally, I would have taken my $58K, bought another overpriced 1970 Charger R/T like the first one, and walked away leaving Hagerty's damaged carcass for the vultures to part out.   Instead he went WITH AN OFFER made by other parties insurance company which allowed him to keep the car.

The other driver's insurance carrier coughed up the $30K to fix the accident damage.  Worman agreed to do the car for $30K because he said it would otherwise be totaled (not a big deal if you ask me considering the amount of damage)....plus that's what the owner could afford.  If the car couldn't be done for $30K without cutting corners, then GYC or anyone else should've taken on this project in the first place - period.

Car appears to have a lot of prior damage to the B-pillar area that was concealed and sculpted with mud before being rear ended.     Can't fault GYC for that.     The car was not "solid" as the owner believed.     It was a perfumed pig.    Even without knowing that, the owner made a mistake by not washing out of the car for the agreed value when he had the chance.

I really don't see how the current shop is in hot water for anything.    It appears they went to bat for the owner on the B-pillar replacement.

Maybe Hagerty learned he used the Charger as his everyday driver?  That's a big no-no with Hagerty.

I don't know what is truth or fiction in this case.  Rex said he paid "over $50K" for the Charger, then converted it to a 4-speed and installed the 17" wheels and tires after he bought it.  Wow....if that's true, I want to sell him a car!  :yesnod:

:popcrn:

 :iagree:
Man, so if confirmed as a daily driver.  Then Hagerty paid this guy for a false insurance claim.  Ouch, Insurance fraud at it's best.  What a potential mess.

Not necessarily ...according to Rex's Facebook page Hagerty was willing to pay this claim, but for some reason Rex took an offer of $30K from the other person's insurance company ($28K less) than the Hagerty's guaranteed value to have the car fixed.  ???

On his Facebook page (August 6th) he said he did this because he wanted the car back. He said he had a guaranteed value policy with Hagerty for $58K and the estimate was 45K with was over 60% of value so it had to be "totaled". He said Hagerty wouldn't work with him on repairing it.  He said after paying the bank loan of $47K it would only leave him $11K which wasn't enough to buy the car back (Hagerty wanted $14K) .  :image_294343:

Like I said, there's probably stuff we don't know.  All I know is what Rex wrote on his Facebook page..... I don't know this dude!  I found out about him after someone emailed me his Facebook page 2 weeks ago.

Now he's got a lawyer to fight GYC so this could get interesting.  :popcrn:   My two cents is that his FB campaign will bite him in the ass... :yesnod:

True, we don't know everything but I have seen numerous pics of the "fixed" car and that is just piss poor shoddy work, I have a feeling Mark basically had a few $10.00 hour rookie body guys working on it and it SHOWS! heck they did not weld the frame rails to the trunk floor among all the other things they (GYC) got wrong on it. Mark should not have touched it, I know I would not.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

TUFCAT

GYC workmanship on this car totally sucks I agree!  I've seen a lot of pictures of this car before and after, and have spent hours (literally) on that FB page.  Keep in mind, this car was nowhere near a high level restoration to begin with.  Without question it was returned with "issues"....I'm sure Worman's has a different side to this story.

After visual inspection Worman should've shipped the car back home to Rex - along with his $30K, and said "thanks - but no thanks".  I'm sure he wishes he did.  :D

Looks like the car was a piece of s**t to start with....some people are always looking for something for nothing...he got back a better car than he sent!!! :Twocents:

DAY CLONA

Granted the car wasn't a high level resto before the accident, but GEEZ! the garbage work done by GraveTurds was on par with HLPAG's work from the photos....then again no surprise, everything that GraveYardTurds touch turns to shit

No one knows what deal they had...maybe he got what he paid for... with all the other cars GYC has done and not one other complaint.......20 years ago no one had a way to put the info out there, but now with all the social media out there the complaints would be pouring in!

This was copied this directly from the Facebook Group Page....

I have just shared this post on every Mopar related group that i am a part of including my own .. We need to spread the word .. We need Marks fans see his best restoration work .. Lets let the people judge for themselves .. this is what i shared .. i hope thats okay Rex

HEY GUYS. WE NEED YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT !!!!

A fellow Charger owner had his Sublime 1970 Charger RT repaired by a very high end high profile Mopar restoration company. They butchered his car , and sent it back to him in horrible condition. Now the owner of the shop is threatening to sue the owner of the Charger. He is trying to bully him so he will go away.

WE NEED TO HELP THIS GUY !!! Please show your support for a fellow Charger owner !! Once you see the pictures of what they did to his beautiful car you will understand why this is So important. !!!  We need to stand together so this doesn't happen to someone else's dream car !!!
Please take 5 minutes and join the group.  DONT TRUST YOUR MOPAR TO THE GRAVEYARD

Look at all of the pics and emails sent back and forth between the car owner and the shop owner. The more people that get involved. The more likely the shop will fix all of their mistakes. Just imagine if this was your classic 70 Charger RT ...

Thanks guys.

Sorry but for $40,000 Rex got shafted, I don't know any of the guys at GYC or Rex personally but any shop that turns out shit work like that will not be in business very long. Hell the back window is just pitiful, I would not do that kind of bodywork on a daily driver. Mark should have known better than to turn out this turd and that's exactly what it is.
