SO what is the best type of motor oil to run in a 318? It has a cam and a performance intake. I currently run 10W-30 but I read some threads on here and was considering using 10W-40?

I use 20w-50 Volvoline VR1 racing. I use that because on back it saids not legal for emission control engines. So I guess there is even smog oil for smog control cars.

If you're going to use non-synthetic oil with a flat tappet cam the current consensus is to use diesel oil, some cam manufacturers also recommend it.

Shell Rotella and Chevron Delo 400 are popular, 15W-40 is what I use.

 :iagree: Valvoline racing vr-1 20/50 is good stuff as well. Lotsa zinc & phosphorus for flat tappet cams.  :thumbs:

I also use the Valvoline VR1 Racing oil in 20w-50 weight.  If it is good enough for racing and has added zinc, it is good enough for me.
