Hello all,

I'm thinking about getting a pusher-fan (below):

For those who have this particular unit, any feedback (or would you recommend something else entirely)? I have EFI, electronic ignition, and a 100A alternator. Engine doesn't overheat, but to have on-hand if need be in traffic.

Not exactly what you have but I am running a flex a lite dual fan pusher set up. I have a 120A alternator with a Mallory electric fuel pump, MSD ignition, giant amp for the stereo, A/C and have not had any issues cooling my 440.

Thank you for the responses. I may actually call Summit to see if they may happen to have the same effective fan; only thinner.

Unsure if there is such a thing, but before I purchase, I'll ask round'...

What fan setup are you currently using? You should be able to fit a bigger fan if it's going to be a pusher  :shruggy: I have a Hayden 16" fan as a pusher in addition to the two pullers I have. Although that Flex-a-lite is rated @ higher CFM than the one I'm using

Actually, we currently have the Wolo Dixie five trumpet horns aligned along the front, so the initial thought was trying to squeeze both features in front.

But:

1.) Having both may restrict air-flow,
2.) I wouldn't want to mount the fan directly to the radiator (having it mounted on the support bracket instead would be preferable).

With that being said, the width isn't necessarily a factor now. So, yes, we could go larger with a 16." However, I'm trying to get as much CFMs with the lowest amperage draw. But, the main question I'm trying to get as is...how much CFM 'should' I need for this install?

Some quick specs on my 69' Charger:

383 BB
EFI
Champion aluminum 22" core radiator
Electronic ignition
100A alternator
Mechanical fan / clutch fan combo (with shroud)

Perhaps the 14" pusher originally listed in this thread 'may' have enough CFMs, but any thoughts on what range I should be in, to ask please?

First, the more surface area that you have is far better than how thick the radiator is. A 26" radiator will cool much better than a 22" unit.
I have driven in 110 degree Sacramento heat with a properly tuned 440/495 using a ECP 26" aluminum radiator that has two 1 1/4" rows with nothing more than a stock 18" fan, a Hayden clutch and a stock fan shroud. I have never overheated with this combination, ever.
Every Spring or Summer the forums get peppered with threads about overheating issues and I see the same types of mistakes repeated time and time again. Electric fans are inferior to the stock type fan in these cars. New cars with electric fans work because the factories spent HUGE money developing a full system to work properly. Some guy picking a fan from a website has a snowball's chance in hell of getting it right compared to the OEMs.
I am not a purist that abides by every classic Mopar engineering principle BUT when they got it right, I stick with what was right.
Stock fan, stock shroud, W-I-D-E radiator and proper tuning so you're not running too lean with restrictive exhaust.

I can get what you're saying & I respect it. However, probably the most that I'm looking to upgrade to at this time would be (possibly) this fan below to help assist in a pinch if jammed up in traffic, long traffic light, etc.:

While Summit seemed to like it and I've seen them installed on Chargers at misc. car shows, my only concern is whether or not this 14" would impede air-flow at 99% regular driving times. Seeing how it's only 14," it would 'seem' to be okay, but may there be any feedback from those who do have this particular fan unit installed, to ask please...?

That fan is physically smaller and is advertised as more CFM than the pusher I'm using, I don't think it blocks any meaningful airflow and certainly helps with cooling in traffic  :Twocents:
