What rearend and gears are you running in your charger????

mikepmcs

69 charger(original 2.7 one legger)  8-3/4-  currently 3.23 sure grip but soon to be 3.91 sure grip. Actually i'll make that decision after I change out the cam but pretty sure i'll do it anyway for the wow factor.  Besides I now have the 3.91's sitting in a 5 gallon bucket of oil waiting for the swap.  All I need now is my tranny from RD and I'll do it all at once.

What are you looking for in your ride, performance, cruising, etc.... If you are asking to try to pick a rear, that information will help out in assisting you in your choice.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Well i just bought my charger not to long ago i got the engine and i need a transmission and rearend. I know it came with a 727 transmission and a 8 3/4 rear but those rearends are hard to find.

mikepmcs

ok, but really they aren't too hard to find.  It's the center pig that costs the cash.

check out this site for information on rear ends and stuff.

Also, there is a guy on ebay that sells the housing(minus the center chunk and gears) for pretty reasonable.  He actually makes them.

Start following them on ebay and be patient and you'll get what you want for a decent price if you wait and research.

Are you putting it back to original and need a specific Gear???

Anymore information about the car you can give is most helpful in any post that you are asking questions.

And oh yeah... we are going to need pictures of the car :icon_smile_big:

Talk to RD if you need to find a 727.  He usually needs a core but he might be willing to help you out.  It will be reasonable $$ wise and will be built however you want.  Can't get that from a salvage yard.
Here is his profile, email him or PM him.

Here is another great read on the 8-3/4. It covers them all but go to your application and it explains about different casings for the 8-3/4(ie:741/742/489)

8-3/4 - 2.76 gears - open carrier - worthless :D

Working on rebuilding a Dana 60, just finished rebuilding the powr-lok, 3.5x (can't remember last digit) gears, probably will be a ssbc disc kit.

8-3/4 rears aren't too hard to find.  If you want mine around the middle of may, it's in fine condition, other than it being a sucky ratio with open gears.  Still, is a good housing.  If you're anywhere near Arkansas.  I'd honestly take any fair offer for it, since it is of no value to me once the Dana is done and on there.

How do you get a hold of that guy who makes the 8 3/4 rear on ebay????

mikepmcs

Here you go, hit this link and then click on his ebay id and do the contact member thing.  Or just buy one from him off ebay.  I do think he has a real website as well but don't know what that is.

I just changed mine out from an open 2.76 to a powerlock suregrip and 4.10s. it made a HUGE difference.  the different shift times on my 727 made it seem like 3rd gear dissapeared, but there was a real powerful new gear under first.  instead of shifting into 3rd at 80mph, it just stays at 4600rpm. no more highway trips for me :icon_smile_big: many more burnouts to replace them :drive:
