My next question:  XX 29 L 9 R

R as in Windsor Ontario?  My vin number is XX29L9B

Were some blocks made in Hamtramck (B) and some made in Windsor (R)?

XX29L9B238099 is a 440 4 speed T5 bronze Charger 500. It is a known car, that I have the full fender tag information for. I'm trying to contact the owner of the car to see if he is missing his engine, or if that VIN is a typo and possibly one close to it. I also have information on 238096 as well but it is a HEMI car.

The  VIN is not mine, but darn close...  If the owner of 238099 is not interested in buying the engine, I would be interested in getting it as a close substitute...

I called the seller and asked him to confirm the VIN number...  BTW, my transmission has the complete VIN also.

Also, thanks for remembering my C500 needing the original engine Fitz73Chrgr, and thanks for the PM Stuart!  As I haven't made any progress lately tracking my C500's history or the original engine, guess its time for me to go public with the full VIN, XX29L9B238071... see picture below.  With my schedule lately, I have not had any time to pursue the research... any information or leads would be appreciated, please PM or Email me... Thanks!

So you already called the guy about the engine Allen? Boy your fast.

I have been trying to buy the car 238099 for the last oh lets say 8 years or more. Always wanted it because it didn't have a #'s matching engine. Have tried calling the owner of the car 2 times already and left messages. I'm going to bid on the engine if I don't hear back from the owner of the car in the next day.

Hi Danny, I saw your post about this engine vin belonging to a known 440 4-spd T5 C500 and I realized who's car it might be as well. I gave him a call and gave him the details about the auction. I too have tried to buy that car but was unable too as well. I just wanted to let you know that I was able to get a hold of him. Thanks

WINGR/Steve

I knew I read about that 500 vin on some post.Whats odd is the earliest recording has 238099 as a Hemi car.But I trust Danny's info

Welcome to the site there 69Charger500.

I looked through my papers and I don't have a buildsheet for car 238080, so no luck there. I take it the car has been restored since your purchased it? A T7 bronze, 4 speed car. A mate to Troy's 500 from the site. I had thought for a second that I did have a copy of your broadcast sheet, as I was getting close to your VIN and saw a bronze 4 speed car, but it was 238099, and its T5.

I'm assuming that with your being around the Detroit area that you were a member of the Winged Warriors back in the 70's or such? Seems that most of the aero car owners from that time frame in that region were, its jut an assumption.

Also assuming you restored the car, just curious as to what you did to the rear side marker lights? Did you paint them the appropriate white to match the tail stripe, or leave them as in the pictures you posted where they are body color? I'm guessing the way it was in the pictures you posted is the way your car came origionally as they appear to be taken in the early to mid 70's

The car in question here, just to clear a few things up is Rick E's car. T5 bronze, 4 speed car. I am going to try to call him about it here around 9 pm. So if he does by chance answer, don't expect me to be off of the phone before midnight.

Okay so I finally wound up talking to the owner of the car that the engine goes to, and he is currently the high bidder on the engine. So hopefully he won't be out bid on it. I had told him that if I hadn't gotten ahold of him today I would have been bidding on it up to a certain point. Lets just say I was pretty sure I would have won the auction as I was willing to pick it up for more than what he says he would pay for it.

I had actually joked to him about me outbidding him on the engine, and he said, if I did he would sell me the car to go with it. Then again it was already a 2 hour phone conversation just to talk to him about the engine being for sale on ebay. So it would probably be another 9 hour phone call to work out a $$$$$ for the rest of the car.

Looks like he was outbid right after you posted your reply... is that really all he is willing to give for the original block?!?

I agreed not to bid on it, but it looks like someone is going after it...  it really needs to be reunited with the car...  I hope he reconsiders!

Looks like its a guy named Frank from Ellijay, Georgia...  It is amazing to me that the car's owner would not go at least $2,000 (2-3% of restored value) to add 15-25% to his car's value.  I would have paid $1200+ to have it as a close substitute for my C500.  I sure hope it gets reunited with the car some day.

The two most likely scenarios are that an "investor" bought it to hold it hostage, or someone who plans to try to buy the car scarfed it up... maybe the buyer "addict4christ" will chime in with the answer...  could be that there was no sinister intent... I hope that is the case and Rick will yet be able to get the engine.

I'd like to believe that, but I seriously doubt it... someone saw the number of bids on the motor and will hold it hostage to make a quick buck off of whoever wants it the most...

Like I said, he should have stretched his budget a little more because opportunities like that don't come up everyday... still, sad to see he didn't walk away with it...

Sucks that he didn't wind up winning the auction. When we talked on the phone, I told him I thought it would probably be in the $1,200 range in the end. At that time he was thinking it would probably end around $800, or at least he was hoping anyways. I know I would have been hoping for it too if it was the engine from my car.

Who knows though, maybe he will still wind up with it.

BZ

I spoke to Rick yesterday, and his max bid had already stretched his budget.  Hopefully the winning bidder has good intentions at least.

Hi, Sherry.  This is Russ.  I spoke with you a little while yesterday. I can walk you through posting pictures if you want some help.  Depending on the tool you use to view them, you can also edit them to crop them, or just do a "Save As" and it usually gives you an option to reduce the resolution, and thus the file size.

he must have gotten another truckload of off-brand soda from the A&P...  can't buy both...

Hi Sherry and Rick It's Doug Croxford.  Make sure you smack him for not buying that motor!

talkiemopar

Ok. smart Doug - surprise he bid it up but the guy had the auto and at the last second got it by 25 bucks!  We don't have an idea on how high he would go - we just ran out of time.  Ya know when you're supporting a Iraq vet motors aren't the only thing on your mind.  By the way we just shut down a auto shop. Brians doing much better. Say Hi to Mom for us.  Finally got to Yellowstone.  That trip with Mike and Peggy conversation wise was Rick sayin 'you're gonna get a ticket' at least 1k times while I did the driving.  Don't think they will travel with us anymore!  :brickwall:  45 years and I've no tickets - now him?

Glad to see you two are posting on here. Definitely need more people who have been into the hobby for a long time posting on here. Makes things a lot more interesting.

Believe me when I say that your not the only one who talks for hours on the phone about cars. If your ever up around INDY just stop by and ask my wife. 3 days ago she beat me home from work and got the telephone bill. First words out of her mouth was "Who lives in AZ?" "Who lives in MI?" and "Who lives in CA?" And "What on earth did you talk for 3 hours to somebody in MI about?" While I just stand there with my blank look on my face and go  :shruggy:

Looks like the winning bidder waited until the last possible minute to make a bid. I don't recognize the bidding name, but it might not hurt to try to contact him/her in the future about the engine. Who knows they might be someone with a good head on their shoulders and you could explain how the engine really should be with the car it belongs in, rather than stuffed in some A body or another car.

If they know you have the correct car for the engine, there could be a good chance they are hoping you will call.  :icon_smile_wink:

Especially when they could have spent less on any other 440 on craigslist or in the paper for a lot less than $1,376..
