The hollow aluminum wing that Dane makes now didn't exist when I was at that stage of construction.
So I stayed with the Janak wing.
I wouldn't mind one of Dane's wings, though :scratchchin:
Is he still making them? :shruggy:
I'm sure he is taking orders

Mine has a factory AM/ 8-Track too! When some people have seen it they gave me boxes of old 8 tracks because they have no player anymore. Most of the tapes fall to dust when you touch them.
Good luck with the car!

I've got boxes of 8-tracks people have given me too. Not because they've seen my car, but because they knew I was crazy enough to take them off their hands :P
I've still got my old 8-track tape case from about '79 or so.
The damned thing is as big as a suitcase !
I can still remember wacking the girlfreind upside the head with it everytime I'd reach in the backseat, grab it and swing it up to the front seat.

Now, while the car's gone... it's time to catch up on a few things at home...

I'm pretty sure Jimmy Hoffa is in there somewhere... ::)

After the Daytona project started, I sold it. :brickwall:
But not until after looking at it for a while and deciding it COULD be cut down to work on a Daytona trunklid. :scratchchin:
UPDATE !
My friend sent me some pictures today of the progress taking place on my Daytona clone....
I've been meaning to get over to his shop and check it out for the last couple of weeks, but I've been too damned busy :brickwall:
As of today the body work on the top and rear window plug is complete and the first coats of blue primer have been applied :2thumbs:

No worries, Larry! I don't even have an engine ready for it yet ::)
NICE...
Why didnt they prime the whole car?
My guess would be that they only primed the areas that they've been working on up to this point to prevent flash rust.
That's the way that I do it in my shop.
looks real purdy . not much bondo either :2thumbs:
I am so jealous! I stopped by my shop this week and the butthead hasent started yet!!! :flame: In his defense he did have two guys leave the week my car got there so he's been shorthanded. He replaced one so far and having the second start nextweek.....so he says.
As far as the amount of filler, That caught my eye too. If they installed a plug and got away with the little bit of filler you have good guys doing the car! :yesnod: I wouldnt have any worries with them.
Good Luck with the progress and keep us updated! :2thumbs:

I made the trunklid hinges, and I shortened the trunklid,
using the steel reinforcement panel I got from Gene Gregory.
The 16 year+++ thing was not by design.
Life keeps getting in the way of the hobby, and the sad truth is,
...poor people have poor ways... ::)
But I'll keep pluggin' away at it... :buff: :hack: :smash: :coocoo:
I'm sure some of you are wondering what the hell is going on with my Daytona project.
There have been very few progress updates to this thread for the last year or so...
Without going into too much detail,
My project had been put on the back burner while my Friend who is
doing the body work and paint dealt with an illness in his family.
After a lengthy battle, it didn't end well.
Not well at all...
Now...
We're back at it.
Today's pictures from the shop:

Yes, it is!
But...
Now...
I have to find this stuff :brickwall: :pullinghair:
It's all here somewhere, in the deep, dark abyss from Hell that is my garage. :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:
LOL
When I started putting my car back to gether I had parts and pieces located at three different locations.
At my house I had parts stashed in 4 different rooms and a shed out back.
Now the fun begins.
Thats great news....Ive been waiting on the "cars in tinted final primer, ready for paint" call for about three months. :flame:
im hoping we're back to Green by the end of April.....2012! :P
We swung by the shop today for a quick peek...
We didn't stay long...
I had to pee, and I was in a hurry to get back on Interstate 70 so we could sit in traffic, burning diesel
fuel for an hour while they cleaned up the 5 car pile up. ::)
Good thing we pissed before leaving the shop. :smilielol:
Some serious sanding going on there: :coolgleamA:
Tork boxes and frame connectors. :2thumbs: Why did they sand the underside though? Look's great otherwise! :2thumbs:

I should rephrase my question, did they screw up and have to redo the underside or prep it for something else before clearing it? I've painted underside's before, and resanding it like they did it not easy/fun.

All of the blue you see on my car is primer...blue primer.
My car has not been painted yet...
Still some more priming/sanding to do before paint. :coolgleamA:

The way I came up with this color went something like this:
Years ago at the Mopar Nationals (I don't even remember if it was Ohio or Indy)
PPG had a '69 Charger on display.
So I ask the guy "What color IS that"? :shruggy:
"That REALLY looks GOOD! :drool5:"
He writes some numbers down on a piece of paper and when I get home,
I stick the note on the fridge in the garage with a magnet. ::)
Y-e-a-r-s pass...
Time to paint my car...
I tell my buddy "I've got the code written down here... somewhere"
"Oh Shit!" "Here it is, on the refrigerator"
See if you can still get this... :scratchchin:
"It's PPG 2019 B-5"
So he gets a sample of it and does a spray out on a test panel.
I check it out :scope: and...
I say...
"That's It!" :2thumbs:
"Do it!" :coolgleamA:

It could be paint by numbers and that would be OK with me... ;)
That really looks like the 70 version of B5 blue which is more to the red side. The 69 version was a little greener. When we painted the B5 bird last year, we were only painting the exterior. Someone had previously painted the car the 69 version so we had to go with that. I like the 70 version much better. The donor Charger that I just bought to build my next clone with is a B5 car. Been thinking real hard about going 70 B5 on it.
I've noticed that many of the paint companies are only offering one version of the B5 blue for some reason and it's usually the 70 version even though it's listed for the 69 models. It's hard to see the difference unless you have two cars side by side.
Yours looks great no matter which version it is.

I wonder if it is different paint lines. On my 500 the car is a gallon mix, the bumpers are a quart mix, and the front spoiler is a pint mix. They are all PPG and they are all the same supplier and there is three different colors, minute differences, one is greener, one is bluer, and one is lighter. Back in the day acrylic lacquer was a different color than acrylic enamel When I do some repainting everything will be a blend. :Twocents:
There are differences in the toners from batch to batch. If you have paint mixed on different days, the color could be different. And, occasionally the guy mixing it could pull up the wrong B5 blue formula.

That car (The Radke blue and red one) is one of the reasons I'm hooked on Wing Cars, I still have the muffler ad and Hot Rod Road test, and I built a 1/25th model of it in the 70's, using parts from the race version to modify a regular 69 Charger, ast the street Daytona kits were not available yet... It's one of the only ones I still keep in my showcase...

Just match the paint to the stripe/decal, ultimately that's what it has to match anyway, right?
"Just match the paint to the stripe/decal, ultimately that's what it has to match anyway, right?"
In a perfect world that would be true, but...
I haven't ordered the stripe yet, so nothing to match it to.
I'd like to let the paint on the body cure for a while before I apply the stripe.
You are not supposed to order the stripe until you are ready to apply it.
Projects can be put aside and next thing you know, your "new" stripe is a year old.
We need to paint the wing late this week, or early next week, the car comes home
on the 27th.
I had no idea this would be this difficult, surely someone, somewhere has painted a
white wing recently and can reply with "You need brand X, code YYYY" or
whatever :shruggy:
I just got some BIG help from Mike (DAY CLONA) on the white wing paint.
