what would make the best of each gen Charger for you

Just thinking out loud... and bored LOL

what would you make to get the best of each year to build your own Charger generation representative. Dunno If I'm explaining myself good, but for example, for a 2nd gen I'd like basically a 69 with its 69 front clip but 68 headlight bezels and 70 concelead system, and maybe 68 tail lights and definitelly seat covers, but being just like a 69 SE interior ( 68 leather seatcovers ) 70 sidemarkers.

For 1st gen I like the 67 most, including vinyl roof option, but I'm still not sure If I'd like the 66 or 67 center console. I think 66 full center console looks AWESOME, but pretty sure is some uncomfortable for rear passengers, and sacrifices one passenger spot

for a 3rd gen, I'm biassed with a 74 all around, but having the 71 options... high impact colors, front and rear spoiler ( although I wouldn't get the rear one ) bumper guards, hideaways ( but just 71s, I don't like 72 hideaways grill ), Superbee Insert or Rammed hood, seat cover pattern and shape but still with the Brougham interior option from 72/74 ( so door panels would require some mods to match the pattern ). Mostly sure a real full vinyl roof like 71s and not halo. I'm not big fan of 71 door louvers, preffer 72, but since I like the 73/74 rallye stripes I couldn't get louvers anyway.

I could add more from each year on each of my generations version, but wish to know how you would build your own one of each gen.

I always loved the rear of the 69 better than the 68, so for me, I'd love a 68 body with round side markers but with 69 tail lights. For the interior, I don't like the woodgrain so I would keep the 68 dash and console but add in the 70 pistol grip shifter (which I switch in once and a while on mine already).  :2thumbs:

Recently, as I tool up and collect parts for my Tremec 5 speed swap, I have wondered why the 69 and 70 models got woodgrain on the console top when most models had no wood anywhere else. Sure, the SE models had it but otherwise, the majority of the cars didn't. They had textured plastic for the instrument panel face and glove box door, the console, the upper door pads and dash had a texture to them along with the lower kick panels. In retrospect, the console woodgrain looks out of place so since I have to modify my shift plate to accommodate the Pistol Grip shift lever, I'm going to use some textured plastic in there for the sake of continuity.

I think the only thing that I would change about a 68 is to put the 70 interior in it. I like the door panels and pistol grip of the 70. The seats I could go either way...

Mine would be a 1970 RT/SE just like I have but with 440 6 pack and pistol grip 4 speed.

The best would be One 68 Charger , One 69 Charger and One 70 Charger in the garage then drive which ever one I liked the best that day  :2thumbs:

I like a lot 3rd gens buckets which are esentially the same than 70s, however I don't think they match correctly with the exterior lines of 2nd gens.

I concour! My 70 Charger R/T V code automatic car is getting a pistol grip console shifted 18 spline 4 speed,and a 3.54 Dana 60.

BrianShaughnessy

I'd take a 69 R/T and add some high back buckets and have a 6 pack option.    And if there's an air grabber available add that too.

I have a 70, but have always liked the front grill of the 69 better.  It would be nice to combine the 69 grill with a 70 and still have the nice 70 tall back bucket seats and pistol grip 4-speed.  The 68 tail lights are really cool, but not sure I like them any better than the 69/70 tail lights.

Nacho-RT74

and what about the rest of gens? do you have just opinions about 2nd gens ? LOL

tan top

    69 R/T SE ,

WITH OUT  the wood grain on the dash & on the center console ,  no SE name plates on sail panels !

WITH    1970 Charger SE  seats & door panels & 68 side marker lights !
although once have said missed match charger , would not be happy because i know its a mongrel  :shruggy: & not  original  :-\

a third generation is easy ,  :yesnod:
   1971 Charger R/T  Chassis / interior / running gear / suspension   WITH a 74 body !
or just a 71 charger  R/T  WITH  74 roof / rear quarter glass  / doors ,  none hide away grill , &  reflective side stripes like on Natchos charger

first generation chargers never thought enough about them to think of a mixed & matched one , although if i had to order on new , would be a hemi , four speed , headrests , disc brakes , console  & rear deck spoiler

1st gen 67 big block 4 speed in black
2nd gen 68 big block 4 speed in black
3rd gen 73 big block 4 speed in top banana
If I was mix and matching all would have high back seats and pistol grip shiters. 73 would have the bumbers set flush like 71-72's

I love 68, 69 and 70's just the way they were built. Hard to change perfection. Ultimately the best designed vehicle of all time.

Second gen car with 1st gen interior. In my opinion, the first gen interior were just so much more upscale, and dare I say, modern??

Full length console with actual usable arm rests, folding rear seats, molded door panels, those beautiful luminescent gauges. Come on guys, there's no comparison between the first and second gen interiors.

Might just be opinion but even the early A body cars were fancier than the 67 and later cars.

VegasCharger

Right there with you KD! I not a wood grain person either. That's why I love the 68s interior. Especially black interiors. All chrome/silver & black. Not a fan of three color interiors. Although I do like the wood grain steering wheels, it's not overkill.
