Painting where not original?

I'm thinking ahead of painting my car, and am considering painting the bumpers and other chrome like things such as fender pieces - all same body color?  If anyone has done this, I'd like to see pics, and to know what type of prep needs to be done on a chrome bumpers (scratched up with usualy fine scratches and fender pieces...

You can see it usually on 71 R/Ts and Superbees with colored bumper package that included R/Ts tailights but louvers painted black like 72 Rallyes.

I'm not really sure if 72 Rallyes had bumper colored as option, but yes for sure 71s
