I was talking with a friend of mine here in Alaska about mopars, long story short. His good friend had a Daytona that was sold to a guy in Aust. low and behold, this is the car. My buddy is 60, used to live in Penn area. I didn't get names straightend out who is who, but I showed him the car on line here and he was blown away at the cars resto so far, just another cool mopar story from around the world.
Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

The 55 Ford delivery may surprise you .  Its not to Daytona standard I did it all myself but all the rust is gone,   R/H/Drive cowl from a local sedan, new inner and outer sills, patch panels up both sides .  And less than a tin of bondo to get it looking OK.    Tims Dad  John

Not a problem any time Im here .Daytona should be going for paint in the next week or so,have no idea how long its going to be away Tim has made all those arrangements. But a painter who says he wants to do the car I would expect to take extra special care . So while Tim is not here to help with the Dodge I shall just press on with the other.   John

Awesome work! I've known this car for many years (Mopar Tom long island is a friend of mine) and I have to say, it gives a tear to my eye. Excellent job to all involved!

I am going to head over to the shop later this coming week, and we will see the front sheet metal with colour on it. The body will then be painted the following week I am told. Here is all I have seen at this point..

Who can answer my question in regards to what the finish of the paint on the taillight blackout/latch tray is? Hemigeno has a reference of organisol, but then I see that was not used on all Daytonas/Chargers? The finish appears to be matte black with a slight texture to it, does this mean using a matte black with a slightly lower thinners mix ratio than recommended so it comes out slightly thicker? Any experience/ideas appreciated.

Congrats on the progress, Tim!  Looks like it's coming along nicely.

Daytona tailpanels are indeed Organisol, which is a textured matte/flat black -- at least it's that way on Hamtramck-built Chargers.  St. Louis-built cars had a different paint applied than that, but for the subset of Daytonas they should have the textured stuff.  As for how to apply it to achieve the right texture...  Frank Badalson has a good reproduction product that reportedly mimics the right look, but half of the battle (even using his product) is laying the paint down correctly.  You might try giving him a call, as he'd probably give you the benefit of his trial-and-error experiences.

Latch trays are a different story.  I wouldn't advise anyone to blindly follow the example of my car's latch tray, as not all Daytonas used Organisol there... unless, of course, that's what you also found on yours before stripping off the original finish.  Most used a somewhat-flattened black.

Thanks for the advice, the car is in the shop as we speak with the body being painted next week as mentioned above. We will do our best to replicate the look whilst working in the time frame we have. I still plan on heading over to the painters later this week but for now he just sent me this...

:drool5: I saw this car in person at the Mopar Nationals in Columbus, Ohio a couple years in a row, maybe '06/'07,  and I remember thinking for a car that looked so rough at first glance, it really was pretty solid. It sure has come a long way since then...keep up the nice work.

Swung by the painters today, the front is looking really good and the colour is amazing. I have seen photos of F6 cars for years and the colour never seems to the be the same twice which I put down to colour mismatch. In the photos taken today I can see how this is possible with it appearing different in so many shots/light and even then, I don't think I truly captured the colour it actually is.... The head light buckets have had aluminum angle placed at the rear underside to help meet the profile the body man gave the nose cone to mate up with the body and one appears to have a very fine crack appearing through the top of it due to stress. We discussed it and the painter said he's going to take it down to fiber glass and respray it but this may be something we'll have to look at down the road..... Here are some photos from today, there are another 60 or so of the painting process (so far) but we had dramas with the phones (the joys of modern technology) and I couldn't get a hold of them yet. They will appear on here in time.

Enjoy, Tim.
