Clutch and brake pedal pads

Have you ever replaced yours?
When I converted my car from the 727 to the 5 speed transmission in 2021, the swap kit from SST included a clutch and brake pedal setup.

It wasn't long afterwards that the pedal pads deformed a bit. The brake pad would fall off while driving so I took some gasket sealer to act as an adhesive to hold the pad in place.
That worked for awhile but for the past year, the brake pedal pad would only stay on for a short time.
I just ordered and received another pair of pads from PG Classics. It looks like they are curved a little more than the ones I had. The steel pads these rubber pads attach to have a curved shape. The rubber pads have flaps on the back that should in theory wrap around the steel pad. If they are not curved enough, the flaps pull away and the pad falls off.
I'm going to try these pads and report what I find out.

Mine were Year One pads from the early 2000s that I put on around 2016. I do remember them having some curve to them and going on pretty easily. They have stayed on since. I am also using the chrome trim on them which have metal tabs that bend over and hold everything  together.

I'm told that the chrome trim seems to help them stay in place.
When I converted to the 5 speed in 2021, I pulled the stock A/T brake pedal and installed the clutch and brake pedal set. I still had the chrome trim on the gas pedal and parking brake pedal. It didn't bother me that the setup was mismatched until a guy online saw a picture I posted....

After the comment, it did look bad to me so instead of getting the trim pieces to go around the clutch and brake pedal, I just removed the trim from the gas pedal and parking brake pedal pads.

I've seen pictures of stock cars/NASCAR where the pads were riveted to the pedals. That's been my plan but I haven't gotten around to it

Yesterday I pulled the pads and measured the pedals themselves. I got 1.95" tall. The original A/T pedal I have measured 1.74". The repro clutch and brake pedals had a noticeable curve to the pads, more of a curve than the A/T pad. I think the curve and the taller metal section made it harder for the rubber pads to stay in place.
I cut the clutch and brake pedals down by 1/8", then used weatherstrip adhesive before attaching the rubber pads to the pedals. Time will tell if they stay in place.

Dude my brake pedal pad fell off yesterday. And it has the trim around it. This damn thing is like a condom, difficult to get on, too easy to slip off.

Man...I remember the whole "rubber" thing. I never liked wearing them.
I had some skin abrasions lately but had stuff to do out in the shop so I wore latex gloves.
Yeah, it was nice to be able to keep working but the lack of feel and dexterity while wearing the gloves reminded me of my single days wearing rubbers.

 :eek2:

I drove the car about 8 miles yesterday and the pads stayed on! I'm going on a 900 mile trip soon so that ought to be a good test as to how they hang on.
