I'm actually thinking of knocking up a "free" website with just pictures of Gen 3 cars on it.
I can't believe there's not more things on the net for Gen 3 owners. I remember when I wanted to buy one, there were about a million pages with the usual Charger stuff, but Gen 3....forget it.
Here's mine anyway.

Here's Mine..1972 Charger SE 400 Magnum 4-Speed w/Air. CAr has brougham package (with cloth and vinyl front bench). I bought the car in 1997 from New Mexico, and finished it in August 2002.
I plan on enjoying this car for many years
Here's a pic of my car with my brothers magnum 500's with redlines...we blocked off the redlines with electrical tape to create blackwalls. Our dad had a 72 Charger SE that was the same color combo as mine ( I remember him ordering it at the dealer!!). His had roadwheels with whitewalls!
Mike
here's mine
I agree with peter not enough 3rd gen stuff around hopefully this post will take off and you can check out all the cool 3rd gen chargers right here btw pete if you do that 3rd gen website you may be surprised how popular it could be! (let us know if you go though with it) thanks guys keep them pics coming.

Would anyone have a problem with me possibly using some of the pictures posted here ....... if I do a site ?
Not guaranteeing anything, but I do a few websites (nothing spectacular), and really think a site just for Gen 3's would be great. It'd have to be on one of the free hosting sites though - possibly www.tripod.com
A couple of my sites include :
www.1962valiants.com
www.capriparts.com
www.allchryslerday.com
Takes a lot of time.....hence my "tenative posting". I need to be sitting at home during the day with nothing to do.
Peter. ;D
i wouldn't mind, i have afew others i could send your way too if your interested

72chargerSE (Mike),
Thanks for the words. I went to Carlisle this year though I didn't take the Charger. I got an offer from someone on one these websites to put the Charger in the Survivor's Tent. Maybe one of these year's.
Picture's can be a little deceiving sometimes. After 33 years and 103,000 miles it's not perfect. The dash pad has a few cracks and the paint a few scratches. Overall, I'm real pleased with it. The paint, top, and interior are 100% original. The drive train is number's matching and has never been touched as far as I know. About 10 years ago I painted a few things in the engine compartment (valve covers, radiator, etc.). I hope that doesn't detract from its status. Anyhow, when I bought the car in '91 it still had the date-coded plug wires, coil, ECU, voltage regulator and such. I took that stuff off for safe keeping. I still use the original green floor mats but probably shouldn't.
Here's a few more pix. Take a look at the huge paint run on the inner rear fender well! The Polyglas tire is one of the original four.
Bottom line - IMO is that if it wasn't a run of the mill '73 SE with a 318 it probably wouldn't be in near the shape it's in.

Peter,
Ah shucks, I was trying to be modest.
Seriously though, yours is awesome. And Mike's '72 SE is too.
Mike, is yours F8 green like mine?
AKcharger's is real nice too. AKcharger - I was in the Air Force for 20 years. Retired in 2004. What AF base is that?
Heck, I wouldn't knock any of them, just like mikesbbody said.

Jim,
No, it's F7, I think your color is a bit more GREEN than mine. I'm bad with colors, but I think F7 has a bit of gold in it...
I also think the cloth on your seats is cool! I remember that when I was a kid!! I spent 2 years trying to find NOS cloth for my seats, and finally found yardage about 40 miles from my house!!!!
Mike,
The flake in mine is gold too and it has an olive green look to it under full sun but I think you are right that your's looks more gold. That's an awesome color.

I remember back in 80 I was a 14 year old paper boy (Detroit News), one of my customers had a Charger similiar to yours, although it was a 340 (73 car!) It was 7 years old and clapped out, as the Detroit winters took it's toll.

Yep....even matched the 38 year old color chart.....and the package shelf which was still factory GF7. I'll have to look but I don't think there was an F8 in 71.
does it look lighter in person or is it just about as dark as it looks...
No it's about right...GF7 was the darkest green available according to the color chart.....you may be thinking of GF5 which is more a medium green....I'll go dig out my color chart.

It will. I had it built last year and dropped it in to store the Bee. We will be pulling it back out so I can make the engine bay look a little nicer. In the pic above, the Bee had a 440 auto in it. The 440 was in the car when I bought it. I also aquired an original Bee hood for it. I traded a guy my bulge hood and $300. I need to do some work to it and paint it. Still deciding if I am going to get it painted Yellow or just paint it black to match the roof. The car is originally a 383, 4 speed car. This summer it will be back to being just a 383, 4 speed car again. Well, maybe not "just" a 383. :D
Sounds like a 440 might be up for grabs soon. :D

Nope. I bought a '69 Charger GL replica in 2001. The idea at the time was to sell the Bee. I swapped the 440 with the tired 383 in the GL. I ended up keeping both cars for 7 years. Last year I sold the GL with the 440 in it. I sold the tired 383 in the Bee to somebody locally. I bought another 383 ready to be rebuilt to stock. I ended up going the stroker route instead and here we are. Just an FYI, none of the engines was numbers matching to the cars. That is why I just swapped stuff around willy-nilly. :icon_smile_big:

That engine is sick. Are you going with the plum crazy color?
Yes, Plum Crazy with the 73 Black Rally Graphics. The hood is a VFN Fiberglass Bulge hood. The engine is the origional 318 made to an all forged 402 stroker (search proven engine combo's). I may go deeper into the engine, port the heads and change the cam to try and get abot 450 HP to the wheels, Right now I think it will be about 360 HP to the wheels. Swapping the interior to Black as well.

I have not seen it in person yet I am still offshore. From the pictures I posted above, I am curious to see how it would rest against the hood bumpers (they are not installed yet). Should have more pictures in a few days, and I head home end of the week. Probably will not see the car in person until end of May though, I have some schools and stuff so limited time to get to the shop. End of May all the panels should be on and the car primer Black. Looking for final paint end of June, the Graphics end of July, Drive train in by Sept. Interior done Winter 09-10.

Did you just buy or sell that on eBay? I was watching the auction of that car...
I don't know If I posted pic of mine on this thread... did I ?
whatever, here I go, on a propper size
yes, does have SE rocker moldings and grilles even being a hardtop "rallye"... they were made in that way down here in 74. 73 were with those moldings too but flat hoods and "standart" grilles, so they were differenced in that way down here.
Then of course, the car has been PERSONALIZED and upgraded with lot of options unavailable here, from donor USA car parts.
BTW you are all welcomed to:

Here is mine :) I just bought this a few months ago.
Its a '74 HT. Has a '68 383, Holley Street Dominator Intake, Avenger 670, Hedmans, KN Air..I like it :smilielol:
Needs a little TLC and a new paint job though! I'm getting new tires this week and I have a set of Magnums for it I just need to clean them up. I haven't really done too much to it other than replace the driver's mirror, fixed the leaks (oil, tranny) and the exhaust gaskets. Going to be converting the interior to black during the summer and painting it Plum Crazy next year! Enjoy..

I was about to say the same thing! very nice :2thumbs: 440 SE's are pretty rare
Thanks for the positive feedback guys - I just got the dog dish hubcaps and installed them yesterday. Bought them on eBay (after being outbid by $1.50 at the last minute a number of times over the last few months).
The 440 SE is a pretty rare car. Mine's got a U in the VIN, one of about 600 or so produced in 1971. It's like an R/T without all the advertising. Still wish it was a 4-speed version, even rarer, but maybe I'll hit the lottery some day!

hey def does that make it official? is it done done?
As one of the usernames here says, is it EVER done?? :P 'course not. But it moves itself now, so it's a HUGE milestone for me! :D
I still have to finish the A/C lines, put the hood on, finish up tuning (it's "ok" now), find some new upper door panels, maybe replace the console, tint the windows, finish up the kick panels, get some hid's, track down a leak in the trunk seal, put all the 'stuff' in the trunk, and a bunch of other little things. I'm sure I'll always be coming up with more things to improve it, but as far as being able to reasonably drive it, yeah, it's REALLY close :D

Do you not have lap belts and diagonals in your 73?
Yes. I wear my lap belt (yea wont help me from slamming my head on the wheel but atleast it will keep my in my seat)...the shoulder belts i dont use because they come out or retract. If i need to lean foward for example to get a better view if im at a stop sign or need to reach for something you just cant.
The 73 belts are terrible. If I have the shoulder belt on correctly I can't take off my parking brake.
Are these belts you and FLG talk of the same as 71-72's?
Do they connect on the B-Pillar and dont retract? They are completely stationary.
There is also 2 clips to wrap them up above the windows. Thats were mine resides :2thumbs:

Welcome to the site! Father/son projects are a lot of fun and that looks like a good one. I'm glad I got to do one with my son before he got on with his own life and didn't have time.
My 73 with my buffing crew... :nana:
I used to not to be so into 3rd gen Chargers, but now they're on my wishlist
indeed my good man...they are pretty sweet
got a pair of decent wheels and tires for the charger today. Went with used BFG 255x50x15" on new black steel 15x8" wheels. Didn't come with center caps but price was right since we got the pair of wheels with tires mounted for under $150. Tires have about 35% tread left so not a long term fix but miles better than the crap mismatched tires and wheels that were on the car. Also got the surrounds to the brake lights painted black to match the black grill. Slowly but surely we are getting the charger ready for daily service.

Third Gen Guy's gotta stick together  to me, all 66-74 Charger's are cool but I prefer the 3rd Gen's
eric, not sure on the original color of the charger. We thought gold but find some white under the gold in a couple of spots so thinking maybe white? The big debate right now is what color we will go with on the paint. Leaning towards white but also like red, orange and that medium blue color. For Texas summers, might be smartest to go white since we have no idea whether we will be able to revive the AC or not.
check the fender tag man...it'll tell all...
OK, I did see a metal plate on the front drivers side under the hood. Where is the decoder so I can understand it?
Oh and no new pics today but we did the parking brake working, changed fluids and got the new plate and tag so we are starting to get close to doing the inspection and getting this girl street legal again. Did some cruising up and down the street today and sounds great but we still have an issue with the carb. Throttle linkage where it goes into carb throat is leaking a little gas when we turn it off. Anyone know if local napa or autozone carries carb kit that includes seals to fix that?
Post up your TAG and someone here will decode it for ya in mins :2thumbs:
Oldrock, I really like the way you blacked out your tail light surrounds. Looks cool!
thanks, my son and I thought the black surrounds would go good with the black wheels and black grill. Oh also I found the decoder online and plugged in all the stuff on my fender tag. Our charger was an original gold finish so the paint on it might actually be original. Nothing else really exciting to report, it has the original 318 and original bench seats. Said it had tinted windows and 26" radiator... pretty much olain stuff i suppose.
Also came with factory ac and heat although they are not currently working. We were actually going to take off the factory ac condenser from inside under passenger side of dash and when my buddy was disconnecting the lines he saw freon escaping! So after all those years of sitting the AC lines were still pressurized. He closed the line off and we now are wondering if maybe we could get the AC working again. PRobably not but still caught us totally off guard that the lines would still have freon on such an old car.
Has This Been Done?
Im going Make a Movie Pic Of all the 3 gen chargers posted up on this thread.
It will be pretty cool.
Im going to get all the pics this sunday and have it probally have it done monday or tuesday.
So if your car hasnt been posted up,nows the time to do it.
And for The Music.
Any Suggestions?
:scratchchin:
What Yall think? ;)
I dont think it has been done there's been movie threads (Charger's in movies) but I havent seen anything just for 3rd Gen's :2thumbs:
Careful with the music in the video if you are putting it on Youtube. They are getting strict about that stuff. I had a video slideshow of a Mopar show I went to. Had Guns N Roses' "Nightrain" as the soundtrack. They removed the video because of copyright issues or something.

GORGEOUS!!
That's the exact hood I want to find for mine eventually. Love the color scheme on your Charger - white over blue always looks good.
Hi, joined yesterday. I uploaded some pics to the other charger thread, but since I found this one thought I should put some with the other 3 gens.
I've owned it for 9yrs, ran it for a year then had to move house for work (600 mls) and had to leave it behind at my dads would love to get it on the road again but lifes other commitments keep getting in the way :'(
Its a bit worse for wear now since its been sitting for 8yrs. Oh its a 73 318 SE.

I got my car picked up in El Paso last week. It came out nice, but I still have a long way to go before it is on the road again. I just wanted to share with all you guys... :icon_smile_big:
a few more...
last one! Hope you guys like it!
She's looking awfully sweet with the fresh paint on her. Chargers are just the best looking car that Dodge built, in my opinion (especially third gens!).
Now get putting her back together so you can post more pictures of it for us!!!
great looking paint job! Very smooth finish and the lines looked really good. I bet it is gonna be one sweet looking ride when it gets done :2thumbs:
Thanks Fellas...it has taken quite a while to get to this point. I bought the ol' girl while I was in college and didn't have much money. It took about three years before I had enough money to even start fixing it up. I've been working on it off and on for about 4 years now and between that and getting my farm going, it takes about all I have... I have wanted a Charger since I was a little kid, and I'll eventually get it where I want it. Thanks for the complements, they mean a lot! :2thumbs:
One more :2thumbs: for your Charger. Oh hell, here's another :2thumbs:
"Some assembly required".
Seriously, looks sweet. Nothing like fresh paint! :2thumbs:
Dukeboy, she's looking sweet! :2thumbs: is it a Super Bee? (I noticed the bulge hood)
I checked the numbers and it looks to me to be a 71 Charger SE with a 383. When I got it it had the superbee stripes, hood, emblems, and even the emblem on the dash... I am going to put all the superbee stuff back on it, but I built a 440 for it. The engine that was in it was a 400 when I got it and I wanted more bang for my buck, so I got a 440 block and punched it .030 over. It has forged crank rods and pistons. I had a custom Comp Cam built. It has cast heads with mancini racing one piece stainless valves, a Pete Jackson gear drive, all MSD ignition, 770 Holley Street Avenger carb, and a few other goodies. I ran a powder coating shop in El Paso for a couple of years and I did some high temp ceramic coating on the exhaust of MSD's 55 Chevy and they hooked me up with a 6AL box, pro billet distributor, and a Blaster SS coil...I thought that was good of them! I powder coated the case of my transmission and had a buddy at a transmission shop rebuild it. I have a long way to go with this car, but I'm looking forward to getting it all together. The only problem I'm having right now is I think someone might have stolen my bumpers and hideaway headlight assemblies, so I might have a hard time finding some of that stuff... Thanks again for the comments! I sure appreciate them.
Well good luck getting her all put together. Sounds like a real sweet setup. I see bumpers for '71 Chargers on eBay all the time. The hideaways could give you a little more trouble to find. You might want to try and make it out to Chrysler's at Carlisle or the Mopar Nationals in Columbus this August, depending on where you live... Usually a lot of good parts at shows like those.
I hear ya. I'm in Southwest Missouri, so I can go just about anywhere in these fine United States in a few hours...
Who do you think might have stolen the bumper with hidaways ? Anyone around town have a 71-74 Charger ? :scratchchin:
I don't want to point fingers, but there was probably people in and out of my buddies shop that could have developed sticky fingers. I don't know of any 71 or 72 chargers in that area, but that don't mean it didn't wind up in Mexico....it's just across the bridge...who knows, they may still turn up before long. I sure hope so anyway. :shruggy:
FYI they will work on a 73-74 Chargers. Good luck and sorry about the thieves. Hope they get caught. :flame:

I love that guage pod :2thumbs: what did you use?
The seats I got from a local Auto parts store, they had them on sale for $100 each, I was low on cash after buying everything else so I figured they would do for now, but they turned out pretty nice and comfortable. I believe they are the same as the Summit Racing ones. They came with sliders, but by drilling a few holes I put the original bucket seat sliders on because they have the correct height offset.
The gauge pod I used a fleece fabric from craft store to shape it in stages, then fiberglass several layers over that for strength. You have to do it one section at a time. I used the factory pod to get the outer parimeter. Then cut a piece of wood for the inset and then used PVC pipe pieces to get the raised areas for the gauges. Sorry I didn't take any progress pictures. I am going to make another one or two and was thinking about getting molds set up for mass production, but I don't know how many would sell to justify the cost to produce them. Most people want the original look. I was all set with a company to start mass producing the front parking lenses a while back before they were available and then someone beat me to it.
Thanks for all the comments!!!!
Banana Wama love the car it is Beautyfull :drool5: would love to see more pics from the side....

here's my 1972, experiencing overheating problems right now.....
here is an update of my son's 72 charger which we are trying to get the restoration done in time for school to start back. Our paint job has kinda gone from taking our time to just getting it done :eyes:
We figure it will be good enough for now and we can always sand down the rough areas and redo it later.

primer about done and getting ready for paint. Slowly but surely we are getting the charger ready to drive
notice the two shades of primer  we ran out and had to use another can.

NOPE, Not yet...And not to mention, no signs of 71-72 fenders ever being repo'd. :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:
These were Quarter's I saw were for 71-72 Chargers, they also had 71-72 RR quarters but no fenders.
I was surprised! I think 73-74 Charger Quarters have been availible for some time? of course its one thing to show them in the ad, another to actually produce and sell them. Your right though they need to be made!
ACUDA, I just found the ad in July 09 issue of MCG magazine page 82-83 they show 71-72 Charger quarters, I havent looked at the site www.autometaldirect.com
I just checked the site nothing... :brickwall: but I bet you already knew that? kinda seems like false advertising to me to have pics of the quarters in their ad's but nothing on their site :shruggy:
I couldn't find a post of my '73 on this thread, so here it is. Just after a bubble bath.

These cars are awesome!! I have to say that 3rd gen chargers have really grown on me since I have been on this site. I always liked the 68, but I really wouldn't mind having a sweet 3rd gen. :2thumbs:
I hear ya SCD, when I met Johnny six pack from this site he said the same thing :yesnod: they really do grow on you.
I would have a 68-70 as well as a third gen kinda like having the best of both worlds imo :Twocents:
I just went through all of this thread....man, what a waste of space on the website. Nobody likes 3rd Gens!!!! :brickwall:
Just kidding guys! ;) You guys sure have some beautiful 3rd Gens :drool5:
The emblem belongs on the door, near the front of it, just below that door ding prevention trim you have on it.

Mike's car is incredible. Truly the nicest '72 I've ever seen. :yesnod: It's not a survivor though... he nearly lost his mind during the restoration. Tufcat would probably agree he hasn't been "right" since (that's not to say he ever was - you get the picture)! He posted a couple on page 1 but here's a few more:

and here another picture....

nice man!! what is the story and what are the plans :2thumbs:
Hello Eric....
thanks...and the story is very easy...a friend from me saw the car in Texas...he called me and I bought it :icon_smile_big:
6 weeks later the car arrived in Karlsruhe / Germany and I start my hobby....to make a old rusty car to a new one....like my 73 Caprice classic convertible.
In normal life I sell Porsches and old Mustangs.
After 7 weeks the bodywork is now already finished....without any fiberglas etc... the paintjob is done...and now I start to make a new Interieur... in red leather with black applications. I want to finish the car to April 2010 because at this time our season for US-Car meetings start here in Germany... also the better weather.
I dont use my Oldies in winter...to wet and to salty streets.
Best regards
Michael

I just picked this 74 Rallye up 3 weeks ago. It is a 360 Magnum automatic with A/C. It is pretty much a survivor except for the wheels. At least they are period correct slotted dishes. I started doing a clean-up on it and haven't decided what I'm going to do with it just yet. The car was found behind a barn up in northern Michigan and has been sitting for about 5 or 6 years because of a broken torsion bar. Ralley72 (Mike) is helping me out my sending me a replacement. It should be road ready in a couple of weeks. I have fired it up and it runs great.

This looks like a lot of work, but in the end it will be worth it. Best of luck on your project. I wish I had the time to do my car over like you are doing. My car was pretty much built in the mid 80's and still looks pretty good considering it is wearing 25 year old paint. My project this past winter has been totally striping the bottom of my car. This has been no easy task, I have been under it for about 30 hours so far with a heat gun and torch and a scraper. I just picked up por 15 paint and as soon as the weather breaks I will paint the bottom. I hope it comes out half as nice as the bottom of your car. Good luck with it.

Sure!
We met him last year. The charger is a legit 440 4-speed TB3 rallye that just got finished. We talked with the guy for quite a while and scoured his car because my buddy had picked up a GY8 72 rallye 400 auto project earlier that year that we are restoring. Truly an awesome car...Here's more(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v717/71383bee/Cruises/bratstop-antioch022.jpg)

I know the bumpers are supposed to be painted, but he and I both had the opinion that for this body to us at least the less chrome the better!
Awesome... thanks for the pics! They confirm the car is the one I thought it was - but with different wheels. I have pics (see below) of the same car when it was for sale several years ago (before it was restored) and some shortly after it was restored. It had steelies and poverty caps on it in all those pics. I really like the wheel combo it has now! If you see the owner again and he wants to see all the pics, send him my way...

I'm not sure but a go wing would look pretty sick on it with some black magnums.
Cody
Yeah I think it needs something on the back...B body pedestal wing and louvers would look cool. Not sure if its an early 72 or not. The early ones had 71 trunk lids with the pre fabed mounts.
Here's the fender tag...
With a build date of 4/11 I am guess ing that it has the standard 72 lid without the spoilers mounts.
It might be me or my computer but do those resto photos show it more of a turquoise color?

Right! Ricer look okay cause there was lots of ricers around in 1971 cruising around and competing with the real muscle. I guess I like ricer looks then. At least its not made out of plywood and on a front wheel drive car.
Another shot of my homemade ricer spoiler that I made with a glue gun some plywood and a couple cans of krylon

I did a similar thing before adding mine. My thinking is just the opposite of Foreman and Nacho. I absolutely had to have the wing, but was unsure of the chin spoiler. Now 71383bee is looking so good, I'm thinking maybe both... :scratchchin:
And don't worry Nacho, no one will confuse our Chargers with ricers. :coolgleamA:
haha, well yes I know, but still, the wing looks too much out of the car... very diff on a 70 mustang mach1 with louvers, where looks just right!
I like a lot the wing idea on the 3rd gen prototipe around, very similar to the 300 Hurst, but not this
whoa, I thought that photoshop with the wing was a 92 honda civic ricer, til I read that you photoshoped it onto a 3rd gen charger.
Yeah... I don't really get the ricer thing. I've always thought the '71 gull wings looked awesome. The wing Nacho was referring to is below. It would have made the car look too much like a '69 GTO in my opinion.

I kind of like that wing too...
The B body pedestal is better IMHO.
I dunno I added the options I would have if I was alive and ordered it back then. Hell after 71 they weren't even an option and by 73 the performance style options really dropped off. You were pretty much limited to a bulge hood, a stripe on the side and rims.
72 was the last hurrah really with a rallye package that was still cosmetically different than the rest of the lineup...excluding SE which had the different 1/4 window and tailights.
I like the prototype wing.
I love fc7 Chargers/bees and if I change colors that would be the color. Did anyone ever see fc8?
Some pictures of my car, I think a front spoiler and louvers would go fine on it. The wing may look out of place

I never use to like any kind of Spoliers on 3rd Gens but over the years your tastes change I now like the rear spoilers (factory) still not so sure about the chin spoilers though maybe I just need more time ;D

I always liked the 73/74 Se's with the opera window...very nice cars.

...about the wing, it makes you wonder if that prototype Charger is still around... :scratchchin: or even just the wing? I never use to like any kind of Spoliers on 3rd Gens but over the years your tastes change I now like the rear spoilers (factory) still not so sure about the chin spoilers though maybe I just need more time ;D
The pic is of a clay model that was done in the design studio - way before the prototype stage. I guarantee it isn't around anymore. If you notice, the car is different on the other side. Its something they do to show different possibilities/options on the same full-sized clay.
Bordin - Nice! :2thumbs:

Yeah I think it needs something on the back...B body pedestal wing and louvers would look cool. Not sure if its an early 72 or not. The early ones had 71 trunk lids with the pre fabed mounts.
With a build date of 4/11 I am guess ing that it has the standard 72 lid without the spoilers mounts.
It might be me or my computer but do those resto photos show it more of a turquoise color?
They do look a bit off... I think its the lighting (southwestern U.S. maybe?).
I had Photoshoped versions of mine with the spoiler(s) that left me unsure if I wanted to add them or not...

I have the rear wing on the back of my 71.....and I'm trying to get a front spoiler as well.
BUT....for what it's worth, I don't think it suits your calour. I think your car looks much cleaner as it is.

I definitely agree with the above. The side marker lights look like they're drawn on the quarter panels. I like the spoiler design, and the degree measurements for ajusting the pitch angle just makes my technical mind happy. I think this particular spoiler is a direct offshoot of both the Daytona/Superbird efforts, and the SuperCharger show car which also featured a similar design.
I like the look of the rear spoiler on 3rd gens. I could go either way with the chin spoiler but think a black rear spoiler would look good on my son's white 72 charger. I know I can get a 69-70 mustang rear spoiler for around $120. Think that would look good on his with the stripe?

I think it would look good but why not get the real deal ;) I'm wondering, since you have the stripe if you add the spoiler would it be roughly in the same position where you have the stripe?
Re spoilers for chargers, do others just use the ones that are designed for modern chargers or are there vintage ones reproduced?
They are reproduced, I can't remember the name of the place right now I will look into it I'm sure someone here will know and will chime in :2thumbs:

Well If i ever have to sell the car... and you would like it back.... id be happy to let you be first buyer, you would just need to import it back to the US.
We shallsee what the next week brings... *crosses fingers*

Here are some recent pics of my car. It is almost done it just needs the engine/trans put back in. Tell me what you think of the wheels the silver ones are 235/55/17 and the black ones are 255/45/18.
darn...thats a pretty sweet 72...and i like the silver AR wheels... :2thumbs:
Yea, the silver wheels look better. :Twocents:
I agree with Foreman and ACUDA the silver wheels look better IMO have you thought of going for a 17 front and a 18 rear? have you thought of going wider in the rear like 275 or wider?
Awesome 72 btw along the lines of what I want to do with my 72 :2thumbs:
I disagree - I think the black ones look better if you only consider the wheels. The grey/silver look better in the pics, but only because they've got a lot more sidewall on the tires. If you got some meatier tires on the black ones, I think that would be a much better look overall. Thin sidewall tires just don't look right on these cars, IMO.

I think if the silver ones were black, then that would be better still :Twocents: I dont like the spinner things on the black wheels I agree with defiance about the tires I like 50 plus sidewalls 40-45 can be ok but prefer more if possible. 72Charger400 do you have the specs on the black wheels width and backspace etc? thanks :2thumbs:

Hey guys thanks for the input. Both tires are about 27" tall but, the wheel to tire/ratio on the silver ones look better. For bigger than stock wheels 17's are probably the best and 18's are the limit IMO. The silver wheels are 05 Mustang Gt wheels and the black ones are 09 Bullitt Wheels. The Gt's are 8" wide with a 6.295" backspacing and a 1.771 (45) offset and the Bullitts are 8.5" wide and have an 6.82" Backspacing and a 1.968" (50mm) offset. I had to use a 2'' adapter to make either of the wheels fit. The cars been sitting with the silvers for a long time so i had to switch it up a little.(For motivational purposes) Im undecided on which looks better, i like the classic look of the silver but the black is more aggressive. Also I plan to put on wider tires with taller sidewalls in the future, but these tires haven't even been driven on so they stay for now. I've been trying to find a cool center cap for a while if you have any ideas let me know.
It's all good - I'm in a similar boat. I love my black wheels, but my tires are too low profile... but they're goign to stay that way for now :) Next time I'll get them a bit fatter.
On the final lane......
Jawol! It is ALIVE!

Yes, this is true i believe it depends on when the car was built maybe? a later built 71 got the hood with the "72" style vents yet it was still a 71 (like 71383bee's car) I think the eearlier built 71's got the vents all the way across.
I once had 2 71 hoods in my garage both 71's one with vents all the way across the other had the "gap" like a 72 hood both had the holes for the inserts but neither had inserts :brickwall:

I once had 2 71 hoods in my garage both 71's one with vents all the way across the other had the "gap" like a 72 hood both had the holes for the inserts but neither had inserts :brickwall:
But those aren't Ramcharger/Airgrabber hoods, they are regular bulge hoods.
I don't remember if I posted this in here or not. This was the day I brought it home. It's a 73 Rallye with 47,000 original miles bought from the original owner. I do have some rust issues to tend to but all in all it's pretty decent for sitting since 1991.

Very nice, I like the '73 Rallye's.

Mr Woolery, I hear what your saying but I have seen 71's with Ramcharger Hoods with both styles of vents (all the way across and with the "gap" in the middle) oddly enough I have never, ever seen a 71 Hemi Charger with a Ramcharger hood that has the "gap" in between the vents all the ones I have seen have the vents going all the way across I would be interested to hear if anyone here has seen a 71 Hemi Charger with the "gap" on the Ramcharger hood. Of course, in 72 they all had the gap I have never heard of any 72's with the vents all the way across but I wouldn't say no exist never say never with Mopars. :Twocents:
Mikesbbody...Found her in Mayfield hts,Oh The first pic is when we pulled her out of the side of garage!
Had a blown matching 400 it ran but with a knock! Got more pics when it was about 7 different colors on it,But had it running by the end of summer with a rebuild on the 400....And Replacing the K Frame as the New Bushings fell right thru the holes on the K Frame! Slowly adding things as money comes available!

Is your screen name twins-crew or twin-screw? Sorry.

Cody,Its twinscrew
Hmm, That could be either taken like a Peterbilt or tractor/trailer type twinscrew or the "Olsen" twins :scratchchin:

... or a twin engined boat.
BTW, here's my 73 SE.
Or a boat or a supercharger (I was thinking boats at first).
Troy
I haven't thought boats since I sold my last one back in 87. Supercharger could fit easily.
The 3 axle truck guys!!
Although the others sound good too!
I have been collecting these 3rd Gen cars now for the last 10 years! The first triple black car in the tent was my first Charger SE! It was a gift from one of the Men in my Church out West! I am in the process of restoring that one! The second car in black and grey primer is a 73 Charger that I "intend" to drive this Summer while I finish my 73 SE ! I have some work to get it to driver status, though! I have 6 other cars for parts, so I will have some parts to sell / trade! I like the buckets and console in the Charger, but I have had my SE for 10 years, and that is where my first effort must go! I do not think I want to change it to buckets and a console....too much work! I "may" just keep both cars! I will post the other 4 cars in another listing.
That first one was my first parts car that I bought for $75, 10 years ago! I STILL find little parts on that car that other fellow Mopar builders want! The red one looks like my other red parts car, but is an SE instead of just a Charger! I need to get one of my resto cars on the road in the next couple months, and finish my 73 SE ASAP! At that point, I may restore the driver car also! And eventually move all these parts cars to other guys who may need them! In the mean time, I try to help fellow CL'ers, and fellow Mopar guys with 3rd gen parts that I can "part" with!

I should have that switch. I will check. You are welcome to make me an offer for it.
I say keep everything  you can never have enough cars or parts and even if you don't need it all someone will (like 71383bee needing a wiper switch) we all help each other out in this hobby which is one of the things IMO that make us Mopar Guys

8"+15" steel wheels on all four with 5" backspace (ramcharger wheels)...295/50/15 rear and 235/60/15 front No rubbing issues anywhere. About 1 1/2" to the spring clearence and no issue with the rear fenderwell. I also run the R/T rear spring pack with 6 & 7 leafs per side..quite stiff on the rear.

man i lucked out with those. I traded a guy on here- an air cleaner for 2 of them. He had them sitting on his work bench for 2 years and he wanted an air cleaner I had so we traded straight up- I love them. My car took first place this past saturday at a car show and that was one of the top compliments it received.

Very easy...
Go to Napa and order Part No. 4412A
they bolt right in. The only trick is you will need to make some pig tails to wire them up. I used a small piece of 10 Ga with a male blade on one end and a ring terminal on the other.

There were screw holes already in the console up front when i bought it in 84 (I was hoping console mounted cassette option , but was not on the Broadcast Sheet) So with that said , i installed those Two Auto Meter's there years back using the exsisting holes - They fit great

KWS is right awesome cars :2thumbs: re: the louvered insert vs the Bee insert I have seen a few 71 Bee's with the RT insert's not sure if it is a owners choice preference thing or, maybe they bought the car's from the previous owner that way? the RT insert is considered more "desirable" (generally speaking) and, is made up of 2 parts hard to find and expensive. The 71 S.Bee insert is fiberglass not metal, and only one piece. Oh, love the sign "Mustangs and Camaro's Beware"

I guess I don't get it ? You mention only 1 first gen and all 3 2nd Gen ? :shruggy:

Nice and alot of work there. But it's not for me. I guess I stand alone. It looks a little "GETTO" . I don't care for a low rider and getto wheels. :Twocents: But, it's your car and your way. :2thumbs: BTW are those tailights being black legal ?

He's definitly gone for a different look thats for sure fair enough if you don't like the wheels do you like the color combos? I think the black and silver work well together.
Does anybody have any info on this charger or more pics.
Here is the pic from the front again that for some reason stopped working above. Tried to get wheel info from the owner who was nearby such as offset, width etc but he had no clue...

I found this old end-of-roll photo showing my Charger before it was purple, still wearing its vinyl top and skinny wheels and tires.
I see that two tone can possibly work if done right. I kinda like it but it just seems a little off. :scratchchin: I would say a bit over the top, chargers dont need much to look perfect maybe thats what it is.
here's mine...

Hi All, I was back home at my dads in August for a family holiday and managed to have a good look at my Charger and took loads of pic's (more than the kids her in doors said :icon_smile_big: ) anyway it wasn't as bad as I was expecting considering its sat in the Scottish Islands for 10 yrs, though there is a lot of surface rust underneath, the trunk and passenger door are well and truly done for I think. Also unfortuantly the drivers side Torsion bar has snapped so we were unable to roll her in to the open :rotz: but with fresh gas and a good battery she fired straight up, it was good to hear that V8 again :2thumbs:
First '74 Rallye I picked up this year.
I kind of lost track of what this thread was about when I got to page 6.
...holy hannah!!.... :drool5:
Here are mine. I posted under another topic but I think they got lost in the 2nd gen crowd.
My '73 SE I bought last Dec.

Having trouble posting pics :brickwall:

can only post 1 at a time?????
:shruggy:
My daughter just after starting it..... first car she's ever started :2thumbs:
Cool Scotty :2thumbs: are you gonna teach her to drive in the Charger? you said this car's in Scotland?
mmm dont know about teaching her to drive in it... as we drive on the wrong side of the road here in the UK ;) but that'll be another 3 yrs off as shes only 14 and the legal age for driving is 17 here. The look on her face as that motor fired up was great to see though. Both Chloe who's in the pic and her younger sister want to be taken to their senior proms in it, which for Chloe gives me 4 yrs approx.
Yes the car is in a garage on 1 of the Scottish Islands and I now live 600 mls away in the midlands near Birmingham. This kinda makes working on it impossable at the moment, that and lifes other necessities like mortgate, bills, kids, etc ;D
So it sits there waiting, which is a shame as I really loved driving it around. When I was at the folks back in the summer I did get a good look at it though as I plan on sourcing the parts to at least get it rolling again. Will definatlly be needing a lot of questions answered by you guys here though :icon_smile_big:
Apart from the welding repairs a rough list of what it needs so far is:
Torsion Bars (as 1 snapped) hence the bricks under the front
Probably all bushes in the front suspension/steering as they look pretty knackered
Fuel pump as it no longer pumps gas and has to be gravity feed from a gallon can
Exhaust pipes as they've fallen off
Passenger door
Trunk lid
Carb needs servicing dont think its the right 1 for the motor though had 1 hell of a flat spot when it was last on the road
only letting post 1 pic at a time?
...
...
Looks like the torsion bars are cut ? The entire engine looks sad. Better start on it. :Twocents:
Yep it is sad... and need to start on it... but its 600 mls then a 3hr ferry crossing away, so that kinda makes it difficult, dont think the torsion bar was cut probably just age and a weak spot.
Wow, there is a lot of nice Chargers here. I have been looking around here for a little while before finally joining. I wish I still had my last one, a 72 Rallye. Here is a before pic, well, before the major body & paint work. By this time I already fixed the mechanicals and got it sitting right. Don't beat me up too bad, this is from early 90s.

Before this one, I had a 74 SE California car with a 360 I only just started working on before I lost that. Growing up, my dad had a 72 for a long time. It had a Crusader package on it. 318, nothing fancy.
Nice car, are you currently a Charger owner?
Thanks and to answer your question, not currently.
Nice Rallye! :2thumbs: I think it looks good in both the before, and after pics :yesnod:
Whaaat, not a Charger Owner. :RantExplode:
It is only temporary. :2thumbs:

looks real familiar...same problem i had with mine...it was in a barn for 20 yrs and when i went to take it out, i found that both the t bars were split just like that...used a piece of 2x4 to splint them...but that was only to push it in and out of the garage, wouldn't recommend that for driving
and mlomaka your charger is sweet :2thumbs:

Glad I revisited this thread, I may borrow the rear stripe done that way on mine...maybe a 340 variation for the two bars above the marker light, but I love the effect of the stripe broken like that :yesnod:
Looks great Beer! I agree about the stripe too if there's one thing I'm personally not too keen on (on 72-74's) it's the sidemarker lights. If you have a red, or orange 72-74 you don't notice either the front, or rear's so much but they still stick out a bit too much IMO does anyone else out there think they would have been better if they were sitting flush with the quarters/fenders from the Factory? BTW Monkele your interior is Awesome! :coolgleamA:

Well, there was a bunch of stuff in the trunk that day, so the back is usually up another inch, but I don't care for the raised rear end look. I like it low, flat and mean, so you can take a corner as well as go in a straight line.

'73 Charger SE with a 318, console, and trying to keep it as stock as possible.
I had it shipped in to me from Indiana (I'm in NY), the car had very little rust for it being in northern IN all it's life. Still a work in progress though, a lot of wiring issues though :icon_smile_dissapprove:

Here's a picture of my 73 SE. The flames are gone (rattle can primer), the lame azz skull and cross bone stickers are gon as are the skulls in the rear quarter panels. It had an original 400 in it w/hole in the side of the block. I put my 383 that I built for my 65 Polara in it (Polara is not ready for it yet), but will put a 440 in it when I'm done with my Polara.

Well, I finally got my Charger out of the garage for the season. I thought I would snap a few pictures after I got it cleaned up. It's getting a new windshield next week. The current one has several scratches from an out of control grinder!
What a Sweet looking 72 Ham1! 71 RT Doors? 71 RT (or 72 Rallye) Tailights?
73-74? Bulge hood? what a awesome ride! :2thumbs:
Thanks mikesbbody. I added the 71 R/T doors, taillights, and hood along with a bunch of other things. It started out as a yellow 72 SE with a 318 auto. Took that out of course and dropped in a 440 with a 4 speed. Also blows cold air. I restored it about 10 years ago so it has a couple of scratches and bubbles but it still is a great driver.
Ham1, I love the Mod's you have done to your 72! pretty much what I want to do with mine I'm going to send you a email I hope that's ok? (I too have a 72 SE)
Once again, Beautiful 72!
Very nicely put together '72, like what you did with it. So you must of had fun converting the rear quarter windows.
Funny you should mention that ;D That's what I talked about in my Email to Ham1
It's been done before by a few Guy's not too bad if you know what to do and what parts are required.

14x7 front... don't remember tire size...
Rear springs look stock but are curved enough to raise the rear way up. No shackles or air shocks

Not sure if I've posted up a pic of me car on this thread yet so I'll do it now
'73 Charger SE with a 318, console, and trying to keep it as stock as possible.
I had it shipped in to me from Indiana (I'm in NY), the car had very little rust for it being in northern IN all it's life. Still a work in progress though, a lot of wiring issues though :icon_smile_dissapprove:
Hey Irish in NY, I found your car's long lost brother. The wax shine on mine will last about a week before the old paint sucks it up.
Bump, anyone else updated?

Man I kick myself every time I see "72 rallye doors! :brickwall: I parted out a '72 rallye that was super rusty. I wenched it up onto my trailer and pulled the front suspension and read springs and diff. When it was sitting on the trailer with out any suspension I couldn't get the doors open far enough to pull them. They were 100% perfect! I was too lazy and stupid to make the effort to pull them at that point. What a stupid move on my part. :brickwall: Yes they went to the crusher. :brickwall:
On the brighter side when ever I do somthing dumb and my buddy who owned the car before me sees me do it, he doesn't say anything more than "Charger doors!!???" I hang my head and know he just called me a dumb ass!

up to date pics of the 72 before winter set in, and newer motor :icon_smile_big:
Here is a pic of my 73 the day I got it registered. This is its first cruise as a registered car in Australia when I took the wife and kids for a drive by the river. Photo taken 2 days ago. I live down 3km of gravel road so the Charger is covered in dust!
I am thinking about changing the wheel tyre combo down the track as my tyre man tells me there isn't many options for 14 inch rims anymore. I am not a big fan of big rims and low profile tyres on older cars so I am thinking 15 or 16 inch with a nice meaty tyre. I also think the Charger could sit a little higher to give it a bit more stance? What do you guys think?
Thanks

I think that it could sit an inch or so higher in the back but other than that :2thumbs:
Not to highjack, but I have a question for the 3rd gen. guys:
I am looking at replacing my intake (383) with an Edelbrock Performer RPM part. I have the standard bulge hood with the Super Bee insert. will I still have enough clearance to use my stock dual snorkel air cleaner, or am I gonna be bangin' against my hood?
Now mine is a small block, but I do have a eddy rpm air gap intake with a inch spacer. And I have clearance with my super bee hood it's very close fit tho
Here's my 74
More recent pic of the Bee.
Thanks for the comment Aribornesilva. I will be wearing out the rubber that is on there before I do much but I might just lift the rear a little and see how she looks.

Looking good XP :drool5: You gonna put the stripe down the side of it, I had mine painted on and I could send you the template via email if you want to do the same. I like it better then a decal stripe.

This is not mine. It has got to be super rare. It's a '73 340 rallye. I have no idea what trany. A buddy of mine found it while surfing the web and posted it on moparnuts. Where are you going to get the vinyl for the top? My car needs a new top and its a Halo Vinyl top like yours. Its my understanding that the tops that are avalible have to be cut to fit but the seams arnt in the same location on the full vinyl and the halo vinyl. If you use the full vinyl top and cut it the seams end up right on top of the trim for the halo top.
I am by no means an expert on this but thats what I have been told. Any info on this would be greatly apreciated
Great looking car by the way. I love the paint and the trunk rack. Was the trunk rack an option in '73?

Sorry Stretch. Guilty of not checking off the notify me of replies box. I am going to get the new vinyl from Legendary as I have been told the quality is excellent. As for the luggage rack, as far as I have been able to track, (without the build sheet) the rack may have been a dealer add on at the request of the original owner. It is an authentic chrysler part. For the most part it has grown on me and seems to fit with all the fender/trunk and hood mouldings. I just purchased new 15 x 7 rallye wheels/trim rings and tires from Specialty and think with the luggage rack and new black vinyl roof the car will look sharp.

I don't hate the white, which coincidentally is now off the car, but to me it just did not fit with the interior and the black stripe. So....with the glue all off I have a bit of time to make my final decision. I should add that the white one had to come off as it was not installed with either the proper glue or enough of it. At the first gas stop after picking the car up the roof looked like someone hid several deflated basketballs under it. No laughing matter. So the work continues as I just picked up a complete set of rallye wheels/tires/rings and caps from Coker. Should have them on by the weeked. After that, time to tackle the tired and leaky 727.
Here is proof taken last fall by the local paper for a feature on my big block car. Thought I would share it with you all. Cheers gang, spring is around the corner. Ray

Google Oracle lighting. Thx.
Work in progress. Console, sunroof, AC and power windows. Spent a lot of its life in AZ...bracketed by New England (bought in CT and now in MA).
Drivetrain is all done. Rebuilt 1971 340 with a Comp 20-212-2, Weiand Performer Intake and Edelbrock 500 cfm carb, rebuild 904 tranny (rebuilt the 904 bought the 500 for the original 318 before it croaked...response on the 340 is nice and snappy and it is fine around town) and a rebuilt 8.75 with 3.23's.

First posted pictures of this car December 5, 2012 in this thread. Just shy of a year later here it is wearing a black top and new rallye wheels on BFG'S. Cleaned out the intake ports and a new thermoquad to replace the warped bowl that was giving me grief. Managed to get a pair of date correct exhaust manifolds and heat stove which means a new TTI exhaust system this winter as well as a complete front suspension rebuild. Hope you like it.(http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j473/73rallye/IMG_2099.jpg)

What are you towing ?
The guy I bought the car from back in '89 used to pull his boat with it. Hard to believe. Hopefully he didn't dip the ass end down in the lake too much!
I just never took it off. I do have a couple 4 wheelers but my truck does the hauling these days.

I am thinking about fitting one to my 73! I want to tow my drag car to the track with it. More of a nostalgic thing than anything else, plus its only a few minutes drive.
Use a towing vehicle that is twice that is twice it's weight. Make sure your trailer has brakes. :Twocents:

Petty won that race for the first time ever.
Petty qualified in 13th., the 180 range, and ran that speed all day. Other guys blew up and some ran slower.
Petty passed Bakers Ford close to the end. Buddy had slowed to 178 on the greasy track.
